During the Sixties, near UNA, there used to be a boarding house with a restaurant in the basement. It was quite large and I believe a cafeteria type set up like Morrisons. My folks used to dine there on occasion. And, when I had a few extra coins used to eat lunch while a student. Can't remember the name, but remember the food and service were good.

Starkey's on Tuscaloosa St.?
Sounds right.
I remember coming to the Shoals from Pickwick to go to Patricks.
Along these same lines, who remembers the boarding house on Water Street in Tuscumbia across from the courthouse? They served family style by placing big bowls full of veggies, fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, green beans, turnip greens, corn, mashed potatoes on the tables....all cooked from scratch....some of the best food you ever had. I worked at a bank and we often walked there for lunch. More often than not, when we went to check out, some business man had picked up our ticket. Good old days!! Was it Burns Boarding House???
Back in the '80s, there was a restaurant in the old railroad depot building in Sheffield that employed
mentally-disadvantaged people as servers. It was overseen by the Riverbend mental health center. I believe it was a lunch-only place. They had very good food there. I hated to see them close.
Yes, I miss the restaurant and the loss of the railway station. Tuscumbia and Florence are developing theirs well.

My memory kicked in after I posted that item yesterday. The name of the restaurant was The Right Track.
I still remember the spaghetti at The Right Track. Best I have had any place around here.
