Don't even start! There will always be corrupt/criminal Law Enforcement Officers. That has to be accepted. Typically, coverage of the bad/criminal activity far outweighs the good/non-criminal/beneficial activity. One cannot make a collective judgement of an entire profession just because the bad actions are all that's publicized.

There are criminal/corrupt/inept judges, doctors who wasted eight years of their life just to be trained, bumbling idiots, nurses who pocket pain pills to support their habit, preachers (etc.) who commit adultery, yet these professions are generally respected and held in the highest regard.

An entire profession cannot be deemed untrustworthy just because a small percentage of its members act criminally or operate in a shady manner.

Nonetheless, your poll shouldn't be given any credence with you hiding behind a screen name like "Anony."
Law Enforcement is like everything else, they are human, and they will on occasion, make mistakes. The numbers say you will have some bad apples, that should be expected with every aspect of life.

That being said, I do give them the benefit of the doubt, and I do trust them, unless they give me reason to do otherwise.
Do you trust the man who fixes your brakes? Do you trust the man who sells you the car? Do you trust the real estate sales person who is selling your house? Do you trust the cook at McDonald's with your food out of your site? Do you trust the Mayor? How about the President? Do you trust health care?

I trust policemen to do their job. That's all I want or need them to do. They do not have to be saints. Just competent.
This is a touchy subject...However..in all reality...in every profession your going to find someone doing something they shouldn't. Even if it is taking things home from the office. Or...I have had guys taking tools home at the end of the day from me. I have always heard..when you hire someone...weigh them when they get there....then weigh them when they leave to make sure you have all your tools. But somehow or another in general, the human race will take their profession and learn how to prosper from it. Sometimes illeagle and sometimes you just learn a trick of the trade. But either way, your going to have your bad apples in just about every profession there is. I often wondered if a uniform in general, doesn't have to be an oficer, but just the uniform that shows power influences one's ego enough to think they are above the rest of us. Remember this is a difficult question..and at some point in your life, you will have to depend upon an officer, fireman or someone thats taken that oath to protect and serve. Good or bad I have never heard a fireman or Officer say...Nope..I aint going in there...Some may not be as dedicated as others, but either way...even the corrupt ones will still put their life on the line for you...Just my thoughts...The Roofer...
There are going to be some bad people in any profession. There was this one guy once who was perfect. His church got pissed off at him and complained about him until some Italian soldiers beat the snot out of him and nailed him to a tree. The rest of us fall short every day. It's been my experience that most who complain about Officers bring it on themselves and never will admit it. Or if they will admit to being wrong they want it excused because some cop somewhere got caught doing worse. It's no excuse for bad behavior but if you haven't spent some years on the street as a cop you have no idea how bad our world really is. The vast majority of cops do not judge the public by the same standard that the public judges them and that is a very good thing indeed.
In the main, I trust LEOs. They do a civic duty few would wish to perform and do it rather well. In my city, there are 28 separate uniformed police agencies with sometimes overlapping responsibilities. That they mesh and perform at all is a marvel considering the bureaucracy involved.

That said, on the northeast corner of the District lies Prince George County, Maryland. Their county police department is one of the worst trained and least competent in the nation. A Maryland report stated they may actually contribute to the lawlessness in NE DC because of the way criminals pass back and forth between the borders.

That's the same force that burst into a mayor's home, shot their dogs, and then lied about having a no-knock search warrant. The FBI is investigating that and several such incidences.

Exposure is the word at hand!
Just like many crimes that has always happened like Rape, child abuse/molest, corrupt politicians, drunk drivers, and thieves and many more. A lot of these crimes are being reported now, that we used to never hear of. People has less fear of repercussions than what used to be the case.
As far a do I trust cops? It depends on what side of the law I am on, If I am a victim yes, If I am the perpetrator no. Some people don't trust anyone, good or bad.
There are already several post about the few "bad apples spoiling the whole bunch" and I think there is too much pressure put on the police to write traffic tickets especially in Florence. Seems like you can't drive across town without seeing someone pulled over getting a ticket. I know traffic laws need to be enforced but I think it's seen more as a source of revnue for the city and I don't think it's the officers but rather city administration. If too much time is spent on writting tickets and less on solving what is considered major crimes How much trust can this bring to the police force? Of coarse thy are not alone, seems like everyone finds a way to milk every cent out of the average working person, from bank fees, to doctors offices charging for missed appointments they all try to get their hand in the cookie jar.

I agree. I dont want a policeman who beats his wife responding to a domestic situation at my house, or a crack head cop doing patrols in my neighborhood. But, everyone is human, so Im not expecting perfection. Its funny to me the only person I trust in your post was the guy that does my brakes......... ConfusedMaybe he needs to run for President? No never did never will.To do there job yes in general the best they can generaly but some cops are bad thats it in a nut shell its not a perfect world some cops are murderers rapist crooks just like the rest of the population just harder to catch like a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Give up the alias. I liked it better when you were pretending to be a black sharecropper.
we all know that the news portrays the bad in everything. that's what sells papers and gains watchers for tv. i wish there was a newspaper reporting just the good news (seems like there used to be one online).
i came from a family of cops. i saw first-hand what they went thru, and how dedicated they were to the people they served. most i personally knew were the same way.
our lives are in their hands every day. pray those good ones respond to your need, should it ever arise.
thanks to the officers who protect me and my family. i respect and admire your dedication to our community.
do i trust cops,,,well that alone is a loaded question. Police are bound by their superiors just as anyone in a working position. By that I mean I do think in many instances they cannot do many things we the public "think" they should be doing because of much red tape, laws, rules and regulations we know nothing about at the time. In short many instances police have their hands tied.
But also I know there are some "bad cops" out there, but there are also "bad doctors", "bad lawyers","bad accountants" and "bad factory workers". The good cops have their work overshadowed too many times by the bad ones.
I certainly would never, ever want to be a cop.

I think Nash said it best;
[There are good cops and bad cops, it's impossible to tell which is which.]
until sometimes its too late...........

I don't think anyone cares about your opinion or even you for that matter. Go finish your homework! Oh yeah, RQ, DQ, and QH.

Here we go again with Jet Girl making up things about the cops lying. Jet girl dreaming these things up is one of the reasons cops have a bad name now.

He must have got picked on when he was little by someone who is a cop now.

Crimson, I think someone needs to run a QW on Jetgirl anyway.
No I dont trust cops they are all a bunch of crooks. Heres an example in Russellville city jail A cop was tasing inmates not because they were unruly not because they were causing trouble but just because they felt like it. Yes he got caught. Anybody care to guess the punishment? He got 2 weeks administrative leave and is still on the job at russellville today. Franklin county also has a drug dealer as a supposedly "elected" official. Yet he has been told that as long as he wants the job it is his. So hell no i dont trust any of the POS.

Do you feel like you caught them lying? I just dont believe that you would be smart enough to catch them. and can you prove it, which I believe that you cant. you can twist the fact and repost it, but you will not have a conversation with them that will prove that you are the one lying.
