I use MagicJack and so far it has been flawless and now you no longer even have to order it and wait 2 or 3 days, now both Best Buy and Radio Shack carry it

I haven't had to rely on VoIP personally, but I did have to support it in one of my previous jobs. We had some Vonage lines, and it was terrible. Voice quality was dismal, and network usage (we had dual dedicated data-only T1 lines) was outrageous. They took up so much bandwidth that I could actually tell without looking at any network monitors when those lines were in use because they they were such resource hogs.
I use Vonage. I love it and will never go back to copper. I have had zero problems. I have telephone numbers in multiple states and I have a toll-free number too. I have used the service with Comcast and with Time Warner. I use it with 4 computers (one with VPN running), an XBOX 360 (or more than one when kids' friends come over) and a PS2.
I have to concur with Alabamason, Vonage is sweet and has no effect on my broadband with 5 computers in the house. Of course it has a lot to do with the awesome speed of my Comcast internet service. I really love the way it emails you a voice message right after someone leaves it. Or the ability to instantly transfer the incoming calls to my cell phone if I just can't miss an important call.
we're all VOIP at the ISP i work at, great phones (cisco 79xx series), we run 6 phones with multiple lines, on a comcast cable connection (with a backup dsl line ofcourse). the bandwidth is shared among wow players, heavy surfers, and *nix users who update their systems at work.

i've done over 2.5 years of 12 hour days infront of voip phones, they work.
