Peggy Noonan, speechwriter for, and adviser to, Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush and often-quoted conservative pundit, recently had some rough things to say about Sarah Palin.

Link

"In television interviews she was out of her depth in a shallow pool. She was limited in her ability to explain and defend her positions, and sometimes in knowing them. She couldn't say what she read because she didn't read anything. She was utterly unconcerned by all this and seemed in fact rather proud of it: It was evidence of her authenticity. She experienced criticism as both partisan and cruel because she could see no truth in any of it. She wasn't thoughtful enough to know she wasn't thoughtful enough. Her presentation up to the end has been scattered, illogical, manipulative and self-referential to the point of self-reverence. "I'm not wired that way," "I'm not a quitter," "I'm standing up for our values." I'm, I'm, I'm.

In another age it might not have been terrible, but here and now it was actually rather horrifying."

"scattered, illogical, manipulative and self-referential to the point of self-reverence"??!!"Horrifying"??!!WOW! Has Peggy taken up HATING Sarah? By the illogic of numerous forum posters, this would surely qualify as "hate." WHEN, OH WHEN, will these hate accusers learn that it is possible to recognize the obvious, glaring and critical faults of public persons (especially those seeking important positions of leadership!)WITHOUT HATING THEM?

And NEVER MIND that this report is from the Huffington Post. THese ARE Peggy Noonan's words; so don't try the cheap cop-out of cavalierly dismissing them because of where they were printed! It won't work.

Peggy is conservative, but she is too bright and too proud to throw in with the Palinistas!

I don't know and I don't care. They can wish all they want, but this is a politics forum and Palin is a big number in national politics, thanks to the egregious gullibility of the right-wing sheeple who adore her. Thus, she is fair subject matter for discussion. If you do not wish to be a part of it, then stay away. Post about other Republicans of recent interest, such as the philandering John Ensign or that Wild Bull of the Pampas who sits uneasily in the state house in South Carolina!

I worry that neither Obama nor anyone else will be able to rescue this country from the sorry state in which George W. The war in Vietnam (the one Nixon had a "secret plan" to end)was the stupidest!

I wish he would at least try to do something good rather than what he's doing.

Both pale to insignificance before the national tragedy of a small majority electing Barack Hussein Obama to the presidency.

Obama beat McCain by 8,538,559 in the popular vote for 2008.

GW beat Kerry by 3,012,166 in the popular vote for 2004.

Gore actually beat Bush by 543,895 in the popular vote for 2000.

I don't think the margin Obama had over McCain can be considered small by GW Bush's standards.

It is simply amazing that what seems to be a majority of the participants on this forum swallow anything talk radio hands them while a majority of the country still supports our president. Just simply amazing.

Of course Peggy Noonan hates Palin. She lost the election for the Republicans, and now doesn't have the decency to go home to Alaska and stay. All thinking Republicans are concerned.

Peggy Noonan is a pretentious elitist who tends to appear occasionally with articles written in her usual melodramatic fashion bashing Palin in order to secure her position amongst the upper Manhattan ****tail circuit and the DC
ca-ca establishment. She, along with her other third rate Dorothy Parker wannabes like Dowd, Kathleen Parker, etc., consider themselves far above the hoi polloi of the Palin variety.

A real woman (i.e. me)can sniff jealousy a mile away. Palin is attractive, got a hunk of a husband, a gorgeous family, and a good head on her shoulders. She didn't need her husband to humiliate her before the world in order to win office (Hillary). She didn't need her husband's millions to win office (Pelosi, Feinstein, etc.). She didn't need a name, albeit notorious, to get anywhere (various and sundry Kennedys). She pulled herself up by her own Alaskan bootstraps.

Those of Peggy Noonan's and Maureen Dowd's ilk (when not inebriated from too many martinis while dreaming of being Carrie Bradshaw)can't understand a woman like that since they themselves haven't accomplished a third of what Palin has in their cloistered shallow lives.

Agreed. Like I said, the very sight of Sarah Palin, her name, or even just hearing her name ignites the fuse in a leftard's head, then it goes boo! It is funny and slightly disturbing all at the same time.

Out here, there'd be hordes of twitching, drooling dingbats in a horizontal position. FYI, the only way you could tell the stroked out ones from the not-stroked-out-yet ones is the horizontal vs. vertical position.

Sounds like a hoot!

You bet we're concerned, but not about Palin. We're concerned because Obama is screwing us seven ways to Sunday.

I've noticed our resident leftards have gone with the tactic of ignoring the intended content of a message and attacking an insignificant detail.

So Zip, you are resorting to name calling and calling me a "leftard". That is something to think about. It is a combination of what you believe my political association to be and disrespect to people with a mental health problem. Interesting. I'm really disappointed because I expected better from you, seriously.

So, you're characterization of my comment of "a small majority" as being the main focus of my comment is somehow NOT akin to, say, commenting on grammar, capitalization, or punctuation by some of the resident loonies here? At least, it certainly SEEMS like you were resorting to a similar tactic in response...

Not really. Just disappointed.

How did she troll for this one?

Easy--by rattling on interminably, jettisoning abundant fodder for her waiting critics!
Nope Bitter,

One of the most refreshingly honest moments of the 2008 campaign came when Peggy Noonan, a columnist and former Republican speechwriter, was caught on a live mike calling the choice of Sarah Palin to run on the Republican ticket "political bull****." She smoothed over her harsh remarks in a subsequent column, saying she liked Palin even if she wasn't sure the selection would be successful. But now that Palin has announced her plan to resign as Alaska Governor, Noonan apparently feels free to speak openly.

She hates her and has for a long time.
Why is it that if you disagree with or have an unfavorable opinion of Sarah Palin (or any Republican) then Repubs start saying you HATE her? I don't like her politics. I don't respect her decisions. I don't believe that she would be a good president. Her view on politics do not represent my own. I'm not jealous of her nor do I hate her. Those two emotions are very personal and since I don't know her on a personal level I do not have that kind of response to her.

She would really have to show me something more than she has to this point for me to want her as president. Quitting her office did not make me see her in a better light. If she can't handle the heat now she will never make it as President of this country. I am hoping a better choice for a female president comes along soon. I truly would love to see a woman president in my life time.

Yet you sit there as her children are attacked viciously in the media and a few loons on here.

That's called being an enabler, if you want truth in Politics, correct your own and then your viewpoint might become more valid.

The Dems are notorious for such slander though they stand in their corner shouting the Republicans are the ones doing so. 5 to 1 the Dems win that battle.

If you are talking about the joke that was made by Letterman, then you are mistaken. If you care to go back and look I did not think it was funny and said so. I actually said that her children as well as all children should be left out of the political mud slinging.

As for my viewpoint being valid...well its as valid as yours if not more. I am neither Democrat or Republican. I have voted both ways over the years depending on the candidate and their views. It seems to me that you are hardline Republican and can't see past your party lines. If you believe that Sarah Palin represents your views and you agree with her politics then by all means vote for her if she runs for office. I will not. Its called democracy Chow. Get to know it. She does not appeal to me as a president. That does not mean I hate her. As I said before I don't personally know her. Heck I think George Cloony is fine as H e double hockey sticks but I would not vote for him as president. Doesn't mean I hate him either.
The vilification of Peggy Noonan in this string of posts exemplifies the manner in which right-wing true believers refuse to give any credence at all to any Reagan-Bush insider who has awakened to important truths and who writes them up in the media. For those who would like to know just how deeply Noonan was embedded in Republican politics, I provide the following link to her biography in Wikipedia:

Remember, this is the lady who wrote the best-selling biography of Reagan, "When Character Was King."

I urge those in knee-jerk mode not to automatically vilify Peggy. Remember where she is coming from. This is an honest woman and a star-quality journalist with deep experience and insignt into national politics, and in particular Republican politics!
