Okay - I am going to lay down some mighty bucks in the next two weeks (they are mighty to me) for braces. I have decided Dr. Hudson is the guy unless someone has something to tell me.

I welcome all feedback, both (+) and (-), about this doctor as this is very important to a beautiful little 8 y/o girl's smile!!!!!!!! Big Grin

Dr. Hudson did my son's braces and my nephews braces and it was great. My nephew still has his on but my son (who is 18) got his off last summer. He was actually born missing some of his adult teeth so when his baby teeth fell out the two on either side of his main front teeth (can't remember what they are called right now Roll Eyes) didn't come back. It left him all gappy and crooked. After the braces came off you would never even know that they are missing. He was also very good and patient with my son which always means alot to me when it comes to Dr's.
my BFF visited an ortho in Florence and then went to Hudson. she choose Hudson even though she lives in Florence simply because of overall attitude! she also said he was $100 cheaper. $100 isn't a factor when you're talking about this much money - but attitude is ALWAYS a factor to me if it is a penny or a million bucks!!!!!!!

I heard he really gets stern with the kids about taking care of their teeth, but that is FINE with me!
seem to me that 8 years old is a little young to be wearing braces. She is in the 2nd or 3rd grade?? Now I am sure there may be circumstances that warrant them this early. Used to it started in the 6th or 7th grade when more of their permanent teeth were there.

FWIW, my daughter used Dr. Koonce(the son) who was with Dr. Griggs at the time. I think now Dr. Griggs has retired and Dr. Koonce and Dr. Twesme are together. She loved Dr. Koonce - she wore her braces for about 13 months and her teeth are beautiful.

I got mine in 3rd grade, just the front 4 on top and 4 on bottom that were already permanent, then as I got all of my permanent teeth, it progressed.
When my oldest needed braces, our dentist recommended Dr. Hudson and Dr. Griggs. We tried Dr. Hudson, who had some problems in the evaluation, and basically said he probably wasn't the best orthodontist for her. I give him a lot of credit for that.

Dr. Griggs (and his then fairly new partner, Dr. Koonce) ended up doing both of my daughters' braces. The girls were pleased, and I was pleased. The staff is wonderful, and both doctors are very communicative throughout the whole process.

Depending on how the permanent teeth are coming in, they will sometimes put braces on to maintain the appropriate gaps. CrustyTeen actually had two rounds of braces just for this reason. Overall, she was in braces for less time than had we waited until later.
Dr. Hudson did my braces and he is fantastic! He is very picky and detailed about making sure teeth look their best. Also, he put a permanent bonded wire(retainer) on the back of my front bottom and top teeth to keep them from ever moving. Some orthodontists (like the one my husband used) don't do this, and your teeth can end up moving years later. So, I think he is great!
I used Dr. Hudson about 13 years ago. I had to have oral surgery to have remove four extra permant teeth that I had. I also had one tooth that was at least one inch behind all of my other teeth on my bottom. It set completely under my tongue. I wore braces for almost 3 years and also still to this day wear a permant retainer. If he would have not went the extra mile my teeth they would be back in their original position. I strongly recommend him and in fact I have two children that are in need of braces in the near future and we will use him for sure.
