Good for him. Should be an interesting book.

FLORENCE--The Shoals Insider has received information via multiple sources that, Dr. William M. Roddy, a Florence physician, is authoring a auto-biographical account encompassing he and his wife’s drug related false arrests.

Several weeks after hearing of Dr. William Roddy’s plan for writing a candid and accurate account of he and his wife’s false arrests in March of 2010. Charges that were later dismissed, due to a complete lack of evidence.

Dr. Roddy tells the Shoals Insider, “The book will begin with the first encounter with the Huntsville police and Madison-Morgan County STAC Team, as we were enjoying a family celebration of my son’s 12th birthday at the Embassy Suites in Huntsville, Alabama.” Dr. Roddy initially appeared a bit guarded about the content of the book.

The Shoals Insider asked Dr. Roddy what the chronology of the book would reveal. He responded, “This publication will be a candid and most assuredly truthful account of our false arrests, and will span the events in our lives beginning with that weekend stay in Huntsville, Alabama, and will comprehensively provide the readers with detailed events all the way through the civil action.”

The Shoals Insider acknowledged to Dr. Roddy from documents obtained from the Madison County Courthouse that the arresting officer was Jason Ramsey of Madison County STAC Team and the prosecutor was Madison County Assistant District Attorney, James E. Tolleson, who works under Madison County District Attorney, Robert L. Broussard. The Insider asked Dr. Roddy if these people would be part of the contents of his book. Dr. Roddy replied that all individuals involved in he and his wife’s cases would be detailed, (Including his legal counselors, those responsible for supplying misinformation such as Sheffield Police Chief, Greg Ray, and many others would be very much in the body of his book. Dr. Roddy said, “If you read a sports magazine, the publishers and editors do not give pseudonyms for the players involved. Why should this be any different?”

The Shoals Insider inquired about the projected date of publication of Dr. Roddy’s book. Roddy responded that a good portion of the book had been written, but strongly emphasized that the completion date would obviously have to be after the civil proceedings against the perpetrators and other germane events are finalized. The Shoals Insider asked Dr. Roddy what degree of interest has been shown by publishing companies. He responded with a very seemingly pleased expression and said that he has indeed been contacted by several publishers and this has been a most welcome relief, as he being a first time writer, he thought he would have to do the pursuing.

Dr. Roddy said, “I firmly believe that my published work will be viewed as a strikingly accurate and shocking reality of how injustices not only vilify innocent citizens, but also damage the core of the vast majority in law enforcement and judicial system, who are truly upholders of the peace and those who are the gatekeepers.”

The Shoals Insider will keep you informed as more details become available.

It'll be an interesting read. Although, he got out of it by the skin of his teeth...a loophole so to speak, that a MD can possess controlled narcotics, bottle or not. Even he knows himself one cannot walk around with pure amphetamine in his pockets. That's a felony, doc!

He dismisses any patient caught in the same circumstances as they were. A little practice what you preach here would have been expected...but we both share a common dislike in Sheffield Police Chief Greg Ray. I hope the civil suit costs him his job.

Best, basically he and his family were spending the weekend in Huntsville to celebrate his sons birthday. He carries a pistol (has a concealed permit) and somehow, someone saw it and called the police. They then found the amphetamine capsules in his pocket and in his wife's purse. They were charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and due to the nature of the narcotic and the amount, some other charge was added, enhancing the charges (trafficking/distribution...something to that liking I believe?). Huntsville then contacted Sheffield PD and they raided his home, busted in his doors and broke in to and damaged several safes at his home.

Feel free to correct me if I've missed something...going on memory here. It was splashed all across the front page of the Times Daily when it happened.

I can't see the objectionable sequence of letters in *************. Reckon it's blocked because TD just doesn't want SI links in their forum?

At my husband's work, a co worker of his could not go the part of the Bass Pro Shop website with the url 'basspronews' because the filter was blocking 'pron'.  Apparently a lot of people misspell '****' when doing searches?   Now I'm going to post this and see if p o r n got blocked.

I remember the trouble we used to have on the food forum if we tried to post recipes containing those tiny little hotdogs or that tomato based sauce that goes well with shrimp.

Two censored words in one post!  Will this go on my permanent record??

Jennifer, Oddly enough it's very hard to find anything about it although about a year ago and beyond it was all over the place. I finally was able to find these 2 articles from WAFF48 doing an extended google search. Note that these are all I could find and they are just very short articles. Very strange.

When this story broke they made Roddy and his wife out to be big time traffickers. It was all over the news for weeks and months. Then when the charges were dropped funny how all that just sorta disappeared. I imagine many were scared of a big time lawsuit.

You just never know on this forum. LOL

Here is another deeper look into the matter. This is what nobody is really making public at this time. I have a feeling we will all know the little details as soon as this book comes out. This isn't the first time I've heard about the Ramsey guy in situations like this.

HUNTSVILLE--Dismissal of drug trafficking charges against Florence Psychiatrist and Internist, Dr. William Roddy is not the end of the matter according to his attorney, Liz Addison.

Four weeks ago, Mrs. William Roddy filed a police report accusing a Huntsville STAC (HUNTSVILLE - MADISON COUNTY COUNTY STRATEGIC COUNTERDRUG TEAM) INVESTIGATOR, JASON RAMSEY of stealing money from Dr. Roddy's wife and son during last year's drug search of the Roddys' Huntsville hotel room.
Addison said that during the March 21 search, Mrs. Roddy watched Investigator Jason Ramsey remove $200 from her purse and another $75 from the wallet of her son and put the money in his shirt pocket. Also, according to Addison, missing were five passports that belonged to the Roddy family. When the Roddy’s sought in February of this year to retrieve the property seized from them in their Embassy Suites Hotel room, they were finally provided an inventory of the items taken. The $275 and the Roddy family's five passports, also seized, were not included in the inventory. "It's bad enough that Jason Ramsey was willing to destroy the lives of the Roddy family by falsely accusing them of a crime," said Addison. "He compounded the crime by using his position in law enforcement to enrich himself to the tune of $275 at the expense of the same family he had already victimized, and that is a violation of Alabama's Ethics law."

The Roddy’s are determined to obtain warrants for Ramsey's arrest for theft and ethics violations, which carry a possible sentence of 20 years in prison per charge, but thus far, no one in the Huntsville police department or the Internal Affairs will sign such a warrant. According to Addison, Ramsey's action are also a violation of Code of Alabama Section 36-25-5, prohibiting any public employee from using his office to obtain personal gain, unless it is specifically authorized by law. "Because Jason Ramsey is a police officer, no one wants to prosecute him no matter how obvious or how bad his offense," said Addison, who wondered how often Ramsey's unlawful behavior in the Roddy case has been repeated in other investigations he has conducted. “I would be willing to bet he did not turn liar and thief on the day he met the Roddy‘s. For law enforcement officials to turn a blind eye to evidence of unlawful arrest and theft is to give a green light for Ramsey and any others who might follow his example to continue victimizing innocent citizens.”
When asked for comment, Dr. Roddy made it very clear that his concern was not for himself but for what he believes to be the potential countless victims of Jason Ramsey whose voices have not been heard. Addison said formal complaints against Jason Manning Ramsey will be forwarded to the Madison County District Attorney, The Alabama Attorney General, and the Alabama Ethics Commission. In more than 24 years as a practicing attorney both as a prosecutor and in private practice Liz Addison said she has never seen such an injustice as what happened to the Roddy family, nor has she ever met anyone as intelligent, determined and tenacious as Dr. William Roddy. Addison added, “He is determined to make sure justice is served and be a voice for those victimized by Jason Ramsey, and knowing Dr. Roddy I have no doubt he will be successful. Law enforcement should be just as accountable as a public citizen when he or she breaks the law.”

Additionally, Dr. Roddy asserts that Huntsville STAC team Commander and Agent Dewayne McCarver, committed both slander and libel. Dr. Roddy stated that McCarver’s shutting down his Facebook account was, “like closing the gate after all the cows got out.” Dr. Roddy suggests that if you feel you have been wronged and your rights violated call 256-766-9167.

The Alabama Attorney General, and the Alabama Ethics Commission. I read where he actually did not get cleared by the skin of his teeth.   It appears that it was not even close! There was never even an indictment because according to sources,  there was no law broken either at a state or federal level. Don't you remember that he filed a notice of intent to sue both Shefield, and Hunsville months before the charges were dropped.  This information is of public record and was in Time Daily, and Hunsville  Newspaper.  I followed this case cause I knew him from residency training.  Dr. Roddy and I talk some.  Looks like from the articles and other informative sources, atty Liz Addison really seems to care little about politics and called them as she saw them!  I think Dr. Mike Roddy's book should be very revealing.  I bet he does not hold back.

Also, the Dr. Mike Roddy I knew/know is so determined that he will pursue every legal means needed to right the wrong he and his wife, Windy and their kids suffered.  In the above article it seems pretty clear that he wants to be able to help the innocent who are unable some how to help themselves when they, like he were falsely charged.  He must think that he can change the system. I wish you the best Mike.

So they arrested he?("the false arrest of he and his wife")

So he wrote a candid and accurate account of he and his wife’s false arrests?.

The scream you hear is from the English Language, which you are torturing with your abuse of pronouns!

Try these'

So they arrested he  him!

So he wrote a candid and accurate account of "he his and his wife’s false arrests."

Yes, there is a use for pronouns in the objective case!  And for proper plural personal possessive pronouns!

As I did not write the article or the title in question I suggest you write Shoals Insider a well worded, scolding letter about proper grammar and proper use of pronouns Contendah. LOL

You are correct.

On a side note, I wonder why they(Shoals Insider) are the only news media to report about any of this? Everyone else seems to be very quiet perhaps waiting on a final conclusion so as not to be sued? I dunno.

While it may indeed be odd it is not illegal to carry your passport around or have it on your person is it?

I'm sure Trader or JJ would interview Dr. Roddy if he wanted to give The Connection a call. (I can't because it might not be ethical.) We would be glad to publish it.

I'll let someone else answer your question Jennifer as I myself can clearly see why the public should know about crooked law enforcement agents and situations like this. What if it had been you and your family and your re****tion dragged through the mud like this? Not to mention that he is a psychiatrist.

I am however familiar with your line of questioning and can appreciate it because I know you are always seeing the "other" side of the coin so to speak.

Perhaps the passports were in his briefcase, since he and his wife and family went on a short cruise, not long before before the Huntsville horror, and anyone should know passports are required.  He likely left him in his briefcase.  As for the book, do you think a false arrest and false imprisionment  of this magnitude would not be of interest beyond Florence?  It would be germaine to all in a similar position, and a great read to countless others for many reasons!  As for the SI, that is interesting, or perhaps !st come, 1st serve! I cannot comment for him on that, but maybe SI was more candid and interested in him?  Why do you not ask him?  He has a practice, why do you not just call it and ask him, instead of making assumptions?

I think if you call him, he will be glad to respond. He will tell you like it really is/was! Originally Posted by Zachary:

To: Bestworking.  Sorry, no offense!  This thing is no big mystery.  I am serious!  Why don't you call him?  He is a very courteous and interested man.  Also, I would guess that he could and might answer some of your questions.  I call him fairly often, and he is anything but defensive.  He , when you think of it, has absolutely nothing to hide!  I have relatives in Hamilton, Alabama that go to him and they say he is, without a doubt a wonderful person and doctor.  That is the Mike Roddy I remember when he was my Chief Resident in NC.

Also, as far as the book goes, I would put money that it will be in the year's top 100 list.  Using real names, when a, "shrink" and his wife get falsely arrested and charged with something as radical and untrue as, "heroin trafficking" that gets dropped without any evidence or indictment, writes a book about it, it will hit the charts. What do i know? I am just an internist working in Texas.  What I do know, fiction publications of less interest often make it big time!  I  hope Mike goes to all of the media with his plan.  I know he and his wife Windy are suing Hunsville and Shefield, and they plan to file an ethics complaint against, Jasonn Ramsey of Madison county Stac.  You folks wait and see,   this I believe is going to be on some major networks.  I just have that feeling knowing Mike's determination and, "all out for a cause" attitude.
