I don't have any questions to ask him. I was, once again, curious to know how 1. his arrest came about 2. why they dropped the charges 3. why a book about it would be interesting to anybody outside his area. Now you're defending him to me like I came in here posting he was guilty and "got a way with it", posting about my "assumptions", which I never made, and saying I should call and grill him. I'm neutral in the thing, I don't know him, don't know his re p u tation, or anything else about him and his wife/family. It was just odd that they felt they had enough to arrest him but then the charges were dropped. THAT was why my first post asked what happened that brought about his arrest in the first place.

I remember the trouble we used to have on the food forum if we tried to post recipes containing those tiny little hotdogs or that tomato based sauce that goes well with shrimp.

Two censored words in one post!  Will this go on my permanent record??

They have to keep such away from the children, which all posters seem to be viewed as by the management, considering the number of words subject to over-enthusiastic, Puritan-style censoring.

Maybe the passports were in one of the safes at his home?

My husband met Dr. Roddy when he first moved here. The area needed more psychiatrists and I remember how well liked he was. I'm sorry this happened to his family. The reports say the stac team took the passports from Mrs. Roddy's purse, or at least one of them, and some money, so they had them with them. Maybe that made them seem more suspicious to the police?

The charges were dropped in January last year since apparently doctors can carry drugs with them. I was just wondering why suddenly there's been so much talk on the Shoals Insider and other sites about the arrest since it's been 15 months. Is this due to Dr. Roddy's book?

I'm sorry, but I've not read the long bunch of replies.  But no dealer needs to carry a supply of drugs with them.  It's just an invitation to get in trouble.

My daughter saw Dr. Roddy once, and he was not the kind of doctor she wanted or needed.  I've heard some things about him that I don't know if they were true, but my impression is that he's just another "candy man."

The Shoals area is in dire need of a decent psychiatrist that is wanting to help their patients seriously in need.  And, that doesn't necessarily mean turning the general public into a bunch of pill heads.  Decatur has a number of mental health professionals, but they have full practices and are not taking new patients.

We have settled on a psychiatrist in Huntsville that has done my family a good job--at an extraordinarily high $150 per office visit (cash and debit card payment only.)  They charge for everything, including filling out simple paperwork.

I just feel for all the people out there with serious, serious mental problems, because they're not going to get the help here from doctors like Dr. Roddy.  He is an Osteopathic Doctor with special training, not a Medical Doctor with a residency in Psychiatric Medicine.

I've never met Dr. Roddy and would not ethically be able to say he was good or bad even if I had an opinion. That being said, he is an osteopath. They are DOs. MDs are allopaths. Some difference in basic training, but they take the same exams to become a licensed physician. teyates can explain that in much more detail that I can. So please don't judge him on that. Many feel an osteopath is a better physician than an allopath.

I have no idea what Roddy's residency was in, but any physician is legally entitled to practice psychiatry. He could just as easily have set himself up as an orthopod and become board certified in that. He is board certified, btw. Not all physicians are able to get a residency in the field they want to practice, just as not all nurses are able to precept in the fields they want.

This is just my opinion so take it as you will but seems like most all of today's doctors are basically just pill pushers. This has been my experience anyway. To find one who is genuinely interested in your case and that will work with you to find solutions other than medication when possible is getting harder and harder. Most of them I've encountered myself and with taking my mom to see them for the last year or so just see you for 5 -10 minutes and give you a prescription and send you on your way. One of the last ones my mom saw here recently in Huntsville would ask her what she thought she needed(as in medication). She said she told him that he was the doctor and he should tell her.

Also, Bamaman , Dr. Roddy did four or five years of intensive training in the treatment of both chronic pain and cancer pain.  He was regarded as the, "authority" on pain management during his time in the NC hospital, which is/was a 900 bed hospital.  Whether or not you or your daughter had a good or not so good experience with him, is irrelevant to the facts.  Do you know how many pills Dr. Roddy had with him?  Really?  I do know how he practiced medicine, and he would make sure all bases were covered before treating for pain management with narcotics and he did pill counts, drug screens, just like he did for Psychiatric patients  who required meds for anxiety or ADHD!  I do understand that he has very high blood pressure and cholesterol and takes numerous meds for these conditions.  He told me.  Are those part of the pills that you are throwing in when you write that he had a lot of pills?  Also, with 4 family members who may or may not have been on meds, (not by him cause he would not prescribe for his family except coughs, reflux, etc, but nothing controlled!)  Where better place to keep them than a locked briefcase?  I know his kids, and trust me they have never showed any interest in his briefcase.  This guy is probably one that you either love or do not like, but the Mike I know is not a law breaker! I spent 4 years working with him essentially daily, 12 hours per day.  I hope that helps.  Thank you.

Most of the time when [if] I see my MD, he doesn't even take the time to sit down or even look at me. Now he's hired 2 practitioner's that see's most of his patients. He's either on vacation or spending the week at his lake home.

I talked with Mike tonight and was kind of disappointed that he has not been interested in the blog, because if it was about me, I would be. I know him well enough to tell him what I think!  He said that with 3 teenage boys, a blog is not high on his list, and did not know why it would even matter.  He said, "be my guest and quote me, but just be accurate!"   I asked him how many NP's he had, he said , "none, that I should know that he sees all patients himself, but most  often has a female go in with him to help confer patient info if they call back."   He said that he blocks off a minimum of 30 minutes per patient appt. and never, ever double books.  For those of you who only get 10 minutes of your doctor's time, consider that there may be a problem.  The practice of medicine is to help people, not a profession where fiscal interests should predominate.  However, doctors like all workers need to be aware that they too, have to remain viable financially.  That is all.  I too have a family to attend to.  I just felt it incumbent on me to share with you all some of the things that I do know.  Mike did say that he invites those with questions to please call him at his office. I can google his office #, but for now I just have his cell number.  He said that people can get whatever they feel they want to know directly from him, if they choose.  That does not sound like a man with much to hide, but please form your own opinions.  Thank you, I hope that you do know that publishers approached him not only because of the full court press media surrounding his arrest and the dismissal of all and any charges, but also from people he knew that had already been successfully published as well.  I hope that helps. Also, in a situation as inane as his, and given his position, do not be surprised if his book has widespread appeal. I for one, bet that it will!

To Sistah ToldYa:   I don't write on these things, plus I am pretty computer illierterate.  I simply called it a blog because I do not know the difference between a forum and a blog. What is the actual dfferance?   I can google, but that is about it.  My uncle had to teach me how to comment, and get set up to do so.  This is not my kind of interest, except when I saw this article on Mike and some of the comments that I wanted to clarify.  Not a science, just wanted to do this.

I wish I could find an attorney like this lady.  Huntsville city police do abuse their power, they pick and choose who to arrest and who not to and how the law relates to the arrest.  They target kids and scare them.  It is hard to find an attorney to take a false arrest case especially when it is a kid because society doesn't think it hurts for a kid to spend undue time locked up.  I carry my passport in my pocketbook by the way.
