Did ya'll see the legal ad in Friday's TD where Florence has requested the legislature to pass a bill to allow draft beer sales? The bill would allow on premises by the glass/pitcher and off premises by the keg.

We're finally moving into the 21st century. I guess Hooters will come a calling now.

Hey Nash, I'll be in your area a few days this week. Micro brews are my favorite. Yazoo was my dinner companion last time in town. (Stone River)

Just read TD article on forth coming opening day for draft beer in Florence...I don't agree with the Florence City Council most of the time, but I do tip my hat in that at least they have some degree of business sense... The Sunday Sales, and Draft Beer stamp of approval was a beautiful move toward bring business from Colbert County into the Florence Food Establishments..

Sheffield
Sheffield's Leaders may be a dollar short, but doing everthing they can to level the playing field for their restaurants and lodging establishments...They recognize the need to stay up with the times...

Tuscumbia Leaders
You hear the sound of silence with that bunch.. First... the label," Leaders" should be removed from any description of them...descriptions like ...toad on a log, bump in the road, twittle-dee and twittle-dump..now that fits them better..They just set in their council chairs watching the people who eat out leave their jurisdiction headed to Florence..
They haven't even attempted to assist their food establishments and lodging owners in keeping the business in the town..
That town needs somebody who has some type of business savy...no wonder their downtown has more vacate buildings than occupied..I use to feel sorry for the Tuscumbia Citizens with such leadership..but they are the ones who put them in...so they deserve to experience the results of their thoughts and deeds...I had to laugh not to long ago, when the Tuscumbia elders stated the way to increase their City coffers was to raise taxes...with leadership like that it won,t be long before the whole place will be shut down...
Muscle Shoals
While with the Tuscumbia Council, I did not expect anything else, with the Muscle Shoals Council has been a great disappointment regarding the draft beer and sunday sales issues...The City Council members know they have to do something to level the playing field for their, but not one has the balls to make a motion to help their business owners...if they don,t wake up, they need to be replaced...just as the Tuscumbia yahoo's should be...
Colbert County can no longer afford such incompetent leadership...
Quote from today's article:

"It is just one more reason for people to go across the river. It will continue to take business away from Colbert County," said Amber Lamote, owner and operator of Bevinco in Cullman. "People already drive to Tennessee and Huntsville, and now Decatur, just to get draft beer. It will keep people in the Shoals."

WT??? Who is she and why do we want her opinion? That's weird.
Unclegus:
I have had the opportunity to set in on some of those Tuscumbia council meetings..believe me when I say this...you have a few individuals who are always there pushing their agenda...nothing wrong with that...but when you have individuals who do not want to see any changes made in Tuscumbia, and they like it the way it has been for the last 50 years...you have a major problem...
The City Council should listen to the individuals. But they also have to look at the entire shoals economic climate and attempt to keep their city up with the rest of the Shoals business community...if they fail to do this, then all of their existing eating establishments will relocate so they can compete, any new entertainment businesses, or new chain restaurants will not put their business in a city that has constraints that prevents them from maximizing their profits...They would be foolish to do so...
Thus, the City Council has allowed a small group to place roadblocks,in the path of a City that needs an increase of tax revenue desperately..
Until some of them grow some cahoonas...you're not going to see it happen...its a shame...because Harvey stuck a lot of money into that town...when he pulled back the bucks and new development...the Tuscumbia City Council and Tuscumbia Merchants have resorted to what they are good at..."DOING NOTHING AND BLAMING EVERYBODY ELSE BUT THEMSELVES" They were that way in 1997, and they still are that way...and will be that way until the old heads die off...instead of a funeral they should have a celebration, every time one of them bites the dust...
My Partner and I now have another reason to spend our entertainment money in Florence....I regret that the citizens of Colbert County did not have the vision that Florence had...and still has...Now! if the people of Lauderdale County will decide to come into the 21st century, they may see more quality restaurants developing out in the rural areas, other than a scattered few..
