There have been many discussions at diverse places regarding partially legalizing certain drugs and prostitution in order to tax it and regulate it better.  The thought is that through pricing and availability the illegal market would dry up.  Marijuana is the drug of choice to be first decriminalized.  AS for where it stops who knows but the hard economic times are challenging many to think outside the box.  Also with the aging population many know better what the drugs are today and are not as afraid of them or their effects as past generations have been.

As for the legalization of Marijuana,

I agree. I believe it should be taxed and sold to adults like liquor.

Prohibition only increased crime in the early 20th centry. Prohibition

again of marijuana has been only making criminals rich, and criminals

out of users. Marijuana is less dangerous than drinking. I don't  know

of any marijuana users that have died or phyically been sickened in any

way. I know many friends and an ex-wife that have died due to only drinking.

Skippy

Cocaine is available in liquid and powder form for use in various prescriptions.   Even in ALabama, there are docs prescribing marijuana to their patients and it is available through black market sources in script form.  The $2trillion dollars we have spent on the war on drugs has been a complete failure.  Marijuana is 10X more potent than it was 25 years ago, and costs about the same.  Capitalism Works!!!

Should we so they can be regulated and taxed? No...I supposed that would be a by-product, but not why we should...drug prohibition (ban on prostitution for that matter) attacks the American principle that all men are created equal...that we all have the right to life, liberty and property...that we own ourselves and the fruit of our labor...drug prohibition does this by giving some the right to rule over others...to decide and force one set of morals on another...that is decidedly UN-American.

This dosen't even address the costs of the "drug war" and it's absolute failure despite the mountians of money spent on it...thousands of needless incarcerations, etc.

Either you believe a person owns himself and he has a right to life, liberty and property...or you place conditions on liberty...which isn't really liberty.

Practically speaking, if you believe in following the Constitution as intended (speaking to you Tea Partiers), then Federal drug laws are unconstitutional...the feds have no enumerated power to ban or regulate them...All questions on drugs/prostitution, Constitutionally, should be determined by each individual and sovereign state.

sorry, that's wrong.. another person spreading propaganda with no actual facts..... part of the reason the medical world is against marijuana is .... how to disassociate cigarette smoke from cannabis smoke... in all actuality, cannabinoids are the one thing in the human body that stop cancer from reproducing/spreading.... all the MAJOR drug companies have agreed the next major advances in medication will come from cannabis! so, put that in your pipe and smoke it!
