i recently bought a 30$ magnavox dvd player. i came home and plug in the red, white, and yellow cords in the correct places on my cable box. i dont know whats wrong but it wont switch over to my movie when i press play. im pretty sure everything is connected in the right spot. i was wondering if i might need another type of cord to plug in since theyve switched over to digital. does anyone know what i might need?

i have one of those charter converter boxes. i looked and my remote does not have a input button.

make sure your tv is on the right channel and that your dvd player is on...

That's right, scroll up/down the channels and this may fix the problem.

Perhaps you shouldn't have smashed it. Wink
Did you check your manual?
I don't really know anything about cable boxes as I don't have one, but in general if you are using the plugs on a DVD player, they should go to the auxiliary inputs on the TV, not the cable box.
You will have to put the TV on the AUX input to watch DVD's.
Look at the jacks you have the DVD cables plugged in to, and make sure they don't say "output". Believe me, I'm a rocket scientist and it took me a little while to recognize the foulup.
Make sure you are connected to the output on the DVD player and the input on the cable box. Yellow is video, red and white are audio.

On the input of the cable box, look to see what input it is. It should say something like "Video 1" or "Aux 1". Change your input to that on the remote.

If that doesn't work, your TV should have secondary inputs. Connect the DVD player directly to the TV. Then make sure you are changing to the correct input using your TV remote and not the cable remote.
did you get it fixed? if not check that the cables are correct. my digital box only has output spots. check and make sure yours has input places and not only output!
