Considering the apathy displayed by the citizenry of the Shoals area toward the sale of a public hospital to a private entity, I am amazed and most thankful for the watchful eye of the publisher and editor of the Times-Daily for asking the questions and DEMANDING answers that the elected officials are either too lazy or too corrupt to inquire about.
If it smells like fish; it is fishy. Why all the secrecy about this sale?
Unless the citizens of the Shoals and Florence especially decide to take an interest in what is happening around and TO them regarding this sale, one day we will have another monopoly for healthcare, for profit only and God help you if you can't pay.

Points to make:

1. No one but a for-profit is willing to pay off the debt
2. if nothing is done, CHG will be sued
3. No not-for profit is able or willing to pay off debt
4. New leadership will happen
5. increase physicians to this area
6. which means increased jobs
7. the council and commissioners must have done their homework, they all voted to sell

And for rocky:

if the Obama's health plan goes into affect, it want matter if you can or cannot pay because you will have to wait 6 weeks or longer to get what you need like back surgery for a compression fracture! AND this has already started......

That doesn't answer the question of why all the secrecy?

Although I do feel this nagging boot pressed in the middle of my back to pay for everyone elses.

Unless and until this newfound "I've got mine, to hell with everyone else" philosophy that is evidently rampant in this area (at least the responses to anything having to do with helping those in need on this forum) is reversed, Pat Robertson needs to condemn this area for greed.
Sit in one of your many churches on Sunday and count your blessings, pray you never have hard times and ignore the teachings of Jesus Christ about helping the poor. This HAS GOT to be one of the top 10 hypocritical places in America. Of course it is, count the steeples.
Rocky,
Jesus Christ taught Christian people to help the poor, not the government. No where in the Bible does it say the government should tax the people to pay for programs for the poor. The government is not a charitable organization. Some people allowed the government to do their job for them because it was easier, not because it was right.

sheptik, you have to understand Rocky's thought process. He posted such craziness on the Politics Forum that he is commonly viewed there as a troll/joke.

Rocky stated on another thread that he refused to consider buying health insurance at $90 a month because it ONLY covered catastrophic illnesses. See, he wants the Government to do for him what he won't do for himself.

if you work for CHG, don't worry too much about your job. If they close and we really need a hospital, the free market will bring us one. is it part of the deal that your job is safe?

I just wonder why all the buyers aren't waiting for CHG to go under. Wouldn't they get a better bargain if it does?

I do work in healthcare and love working in healthcare. I wouldn't think anyone was hiding information even if this was Keller or Huntsville instead of CHG! Records during a buying process should not be copied and handed out to the public in my opinion!! THIS DOES NOT mean they are hiding anything.

I don't understand why the TIMES DAILY decided to go after this the way they have.

Most of the time Non-Disclosure, Confidentiality Agreements are signed during the buying process. Everyone involed must respect this part of the process and keep the sale of the business confidential. There are also legal ramifications if it is traced back to you that you were the one who leaked the word that the business was for sale.

I wonder what happens if the all of these companies signed non-disclosure, confidentiality agreements and the Judge opens these records to the public. Can those companies sue CHG or the Times Daily?
All offers are valid until due diligence is completed. If something stops the deal during this process the other offers come back into play, if the confidentiality agreements are still in place. If not, they have the right to pull their offers.

I am willing to bet when all the documents are released, people who are looking for hidden agendas will be really disappointed. This is about proper business ethics, not secret transactions.
Rocky,
There were no secrete deals, this practice is common on deals like this. Several companies were competing for this hospital, they wanted to be sure it was a done deal before they showed it to the public. What does it matter to you, since OBAMA care was passed, private owned hospital will follow a different rule book. I bet they were working on some type of contingency plan in-case it went through.
Yeah, I guess the judge disagrees with rocky's assessment.....
“The Court finds that the Legislature granted to Public Health Authorities, including the defendant, greater flexibility than other public entities and in exempting them from the Open Meeting Act and “other similar law” exempted their administrative or proprietary acts from the Open Records Act. This however does not exempt governmental functions from the Open Records Act. The Court finds that the transaction in question is an administrative or proprietary act and the requested records are therefore not subject to the Open Records Act.”

According to today's ruling, the records can be protected until the finality of the deal has been orchestrated.
