Ok, I have seen nothing in the TD or any other news outlet about this. BUT - I have had two people from the Shoals email / text me about it. From what I have heard - there was an explosion at Winter Haven Apartments last night and they are suspecting a meth lab. Anyone know any different?

Winter Haven is on Church Rd, right up from where Helton dead ends. Go over the railroad tracks towards Chisholm Rd, and WinterHaven is on your left. Last I checked they were Section 8 apartments.

From what I heard they had the whole area closed off and no one could get through there. I found it odd that no one started a thread on here - or did I miss it?
It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

It was on 19 news and 48 news this morning. No mention of a meth lab, though.
No, Donna -- it happened Tuesday night. I think 2 or 3 different engines responded (5, 3 & 1) but I can't be sure on that. With all the sirens I heard it sounded like a 5 alarm fire. There is police tape up and the Engine 5 crew came through early in the day to double check things. I know the investigators were there after that, but nothing else has been said. Winterhaven is income based so a meth lab is always a possibility, but I haven't heard that. If I am not mistaken it affected one of the 1 level buildings on the property.
That's what I meant WarEagle -- I was at Rite Aid by Station 3 when they rolled and could hear the sirens from 5 in the distance and the trucks from Station 1 when they went down Chisholm. I just don't know all the units names... Big Grin I work close to there and saw the trucks that came past today on their way. Some of my co-workers were talking about a fire at WH and I noticed the tape when I went by....

I do think if it had been a meth lab -- they would have evacuated the complex which apparently they didn't do...so maybe that is just a rumor.
That's cool. I talked to a firefighter friend today who said it was a 2 story unit and that the top floors were gutted and the bottoms were fire, smoke and water damaged. Pretty much it was an explosion that they are investigating, but he didn't mention anyone hearing a "bomb type" explosion -- just the full force of a fire overtaking a structure and blowing up the contents etc...(like hairspray bottles etc.)

He named the units that responded along with the Fire Investigators and the Fire Chief along with the EMS Supervisor -- I believe I'm right in their titles.

Apparently it was a wild experience and one that was memorable in many ways. I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else anytime soon though...
