My job does not provide any type of vision insurance. I have worn corrective lenses since I can remember. I haven't bought a new pair of glasses in quite sometime and quite frankly the ones I have are falling apart and I need to have a new exam.

Can anyone reccommend anyone in the Florence/Muscle Shoals area that is reasonable and could you tell me how much you generally pay for the exam and glasses.

I get my exam from Dr. Vandiver at Schaeffer eye center, but I get mine and my daughter's contacts from the Contact Lens King website and our glasses from Zenni Optical (www.ZenniOptical.com). Both have unbeatable prices and customer service, IMHO. You can't beat $16 (including S&H) for a pair of Rx sunglasses!

BTW - my work has vision insurance, but if you do the math you will find the premiums almost equal the amount they pay out in benfits! You actually come out a bit worse by paying for the insurance rather than paying cash!!
While I'm waiting to hear from M.U.B.M. I'm going to address some questions that other curious folks PM'd me. Not that I don't love ya'll, but I don't like to type the same thing over and over and I figure if two folks ask the same questions, then others may want to know, too.

1. How do you know the glasses from Zenni are the right Rx?
Good question. Because I took them with me to my eye doctor when I went for my two week contact lens checkup and they "read" the glasses on some machine and told me they were spot on. And I am pretty darn blind (-7.0) in one eye and have astigmatism in the other (1.75) so my Rx is pretty jacked up!

2.How long does it take?
Every time I have ordered glasses from Zenni they have come in right at two weeks. I've ordered by myself, with my daughter, just for my daughter, and with my sister-in-law. If you get 1 or 100 pairs of glasses, shipping is $4.95 so we try to combine as much as possible.

3. What is your PD-Pupillary Distance and how do I find mine?
It is the distance between your pupils when you are looking straight ahead. It should be on your Rx, but mine wasn't. Mine is 60 and I think I have an averaged size face. It is measured in millimeters. Get a friend to measure with a ruler, that is what I did.

4.How do I get all those measurements for the glasses arms and lens height and all that?
Get a pair of glasses that fits you well and measure them. Sunglasses, reading glasses, Harry Potter glasses, whatever - as long as you like they way they fit. Again, measure in millimeters.

Any more questions? Ya'll can PM me or ask in this thread. And no, I will not post a picture of me in my glasses!!!
