Fact Checker Wasn't Having Any of Andrew Cuomo Trying to Pass Blame to Trump over Deadly Nursing Home Policy

New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo knows this issue will probably come back to haunt him, especially when he makes a run for the White House in the future: the grim reaper policy that forced nursing homes to take COVID-positive patients. The policy led to thousands of deaths, and it's really no shocker since if anything gets into a nursing facility, it spreads like a brushfire. The state deleted the order from Cuomo on New York's health website. So, yeah, it's an issue. Cortney wrote about it previously, and now even liberal fact-checkers are calling the liberal governor out. Cuomo tried to pass the blame onto President Trump, saying his nursing home edict was based on CDC guidelines.

He said, "I'm not going to get into the political back and forth, but anyone who wants to ask, why did the state do that with COVID patients in nursing homes? It's because the state followed President Trump's CDC guidance."

Well, that's not true (via PolitiFact):

The CDC's guidance at the time of the March 25 state order was that COVID-19 patients who are medically stable can be discharged from a hospital to a nursing home, but only if the nursing home can implement all recommended infection control procedures.

CMS, a federal agency that regulates nursing homes, issued similar guidance, and also said that preferably, coronoavirus patients should be cared for in a dedicated unit.

Like CDC and CMS, the state Health Department said only those patients who are medically stable can be discharged, and also recommended that nursing homes consider dedicated units, if possible. The Health Department prohibited nursing homes from requiring a COVID-19 test before admitting a resident, while CMS said new residents should be tested, but did not require it.

The Cuomo administration points to state and federal regulations that predate the pandemic, which require facilities to accept only those patients they can care for. In addition, earlier state communications encouraged nursing homes to stay current with CDC guidance.

But once the state issued its March 25 advisory, nursing home operators said that they felt they had no choice but to accept residents who were either known to be infected or suspected to be. That’s because the March 25 memo did not say anything about making sure that a nursing home can care for a patient before making an admission decision, and said they "must comply with the expedited receipt of residents." In the month following the memo, nursing homes pleaded for relief from the order.

And if PolitiFact is calling out Democrats, you know it's a real whopper.

After all that time they were telling NY not to listen to Trump and go on about their business it suddenly becomes Trump's fault??

THIS.... is what the NY politicians were telling the people of NYC on Feb 2.....sick.
*** Oxiris Barbot FEB 2,..New York City Health Commissioner: "The risk to New Yorkers for coronavirus is low and our preparedness as a city is very high. There is no reason not to take the subway, not to take the bus, not to go out to your favorite restaurant, and certainly not to miss the parade next Sunday. I'm going to be there".
"*** State Sen. Brian Kavanagh, D-N.Y.: "It's very important that we recognize that this holiday and this festival is of tremendous significance for many communities in our state. And it is very important that we ensure that we don't have misinformation, and many in the media have been covering this issue as if it's, you know, a terrible plague that people have to avoid.
***State Sen. John Liu, D-N.Y.:" But there's really no need to panic and to avoid activities that we always do as New Yorkers. We are hardy people. As an Asian-American, I've been somewhat disturbed, if not outright appalled, at some of the comments or gestures that I have seen. Diseases originate from anywhere or from particular places in the world.

That truck NY city calls their mayor agreeing with his top-doctor handing out pi**-poor advice.
Mayor de Blasio was echoing the advice of Barbot saying to just keep things going as normal on February 10th. While he mentioned common sense practices like wash your hands and the ilk, he simply told the elderly not to visit sick people.
Because silent carries aren’t a thing, you know?
De Blasio on Feb 10th: “We want to encourage” NYers going out. "If you’re under 50 & you’re healthy, which is most NYers, there’s very little threat here. This disease, even if you were to get it, basically acts like a common cold or flu. And transmission is not that easy."
So, what does this stellar leader of New York City suggest on March 2nd? He suggests to go to the movies, again, in spite of COVID-19:
“Since I’m encouraging New Yorkers to go on with your lives + get out on the town despite Coronavirus, I thought I would offer some suggestions. Here’s the first: thru Thurs 3/5 go see ‘The Traitor’. If ‘The Wire’ was a true story + set in Italy, it would be this film.”
Even on March 11th, de Blasio was still saying to just keep things going on as normal:
“If you’re not sick, you should be going about your life.”

Biden and Sanders were holding rallies in March and Biden was getting in the faces of his supporters wanting to fight them. Dems and Biden called Trump a xenophobe and said to ignore him.

DeBlasio threatens to close down churches permanently for holding services...says nothing to mosques that have held services all along and in fact...hands out meals to muslims during  Ramadan.

Dems busy closing legitimate businesses to show how 'tough' they are...and giving illegals millions of taxpayer's money...ruining the economy while they strut around talking about their ice-cream in their $24,000.00 freezers to name just a few things...and look the other way as they allow rioters to burn down their cities.

Dems exploiting and cheering on the virus...celebrating deaths...and wanting to keep the county closed to ruin the economy...rioting, looting and destroying property and kneeling to terrorists on the pretense that  they give a flip about a career criminal.
