I was thinking this morning while listening to the news, and I thought I'd post my thoughts here.

I wasn't sure whether to post this in Religion or Politics, but I'll go over there and ask those who don't frequent Religion to come here and read this.

You all know that I am a Christian. God's greatest command to us is to love Him, and His second greatest command is to love one another. As someone who can't help but fulfill His first commandment (I just love my Lord so much!), I want to do whatever I can to please Him, so I try as much as I can to fulfill His second commandment as well.

Now, as someone who believes in our system of government, I believe we elect people to REPRESENT us. With my Lord coming first in my life, I feel that I should vote for those who are most likely to fulfill His second commandment, so that I know I have done as much in my power to be kind and to PROTECT other people. If I love them, I want what is best for them.

That is why I am politically liberal.

I can't do anything about God's first commandment, except in my own life. Loving God with all one's heart and soul and mind is PERSONAL. And I believe the choices a person makes about abortion, *** rights, and other controvercial subjects is also personal. I think these things should be left between the individual and God.

But pulling Medicare out from under our elderly is not loving them. Refusing to help the poor is not loving them. Refusing affordable medical care to the sick is not loving them. I vote Democratic because the Dems are more likely to back social programs that in MY mind, make my country more like the good Samaritan than the rich man who would not give up his riches to follow Christ.

I know that just about ALL politicians and their parties have many many faults, and like most Americans, I end up voting for the lesser of two (or more) evils. I know that we have lots of other problems besides social programs that we are having a hard time paying for. But I also know that the conservatives usually side with the rich and with big business, which to me, are the equivalent of the rich man who can never pass through the eye of a needle. I'd rather see THEM taxed, and their loopholes done away with, so that we as a country, can take care of the elderly, the poor, the sick.

I know there are many of you who disagree with me, but I thought if I stated my reasoning, although you may still disagree with me, you might understand WHY some liberals, at least, think the way they do, and understanding brings a lessenning of rancor. We, as Christians, and as countrymen, need to stop being so angry with each other.

A good portion of the "rich" you speak of are small business owners.  Without them there would be taxes to help the poor you speak of.  Higher taxes mean fewer jobs and more poor.  All the class warfare in the world doesn't create one job as evidenced dismal failure of the Obama administration on the economy.  We can't afford to maintain our entitlement programs as they are.  I would assume your God would want you to know this so I'm explaining this to you.   We are broke!  40 Cents on every dollar we spend is BORROWED.  Earth to earth child wake up star child because I don't know what planet you are on but you must also be in a cave on that planet with your fingers in your ears because this stuff isn't getting through to you.  What part of unsustainable do you not understand.  If God wants us to wipe every baby's ass in this society he needs to send us a freaking check and not a snake oil salesman.  That same tingle you must get is the same cringe people in the real world get from hearing that name.

Well, there goes my theory that understanding might bring a lessenning ot rancor.

Ronnie, 98% of SMALL businesses make less than $250,000 a year. http://www.politifact.com/trut...ubject-to-obamas-ta/

I own a small business, and I certainly don't make that much. But when we have huge corporations like GE not paying ANY taxes because of their ability to hire accountants who know how to take advantage of loopholes, I don't see how ANYBODY could think that's fair. Why should these people get all the breaks and the old, the poor, and the sick be the ones who have to suffer?

I contend that if we closed the loopholes so EVERYONE paid their fair share of taxes, there would be enough money to pay our debts, continue with social programs, AND create more jobs. These huge companies who are earning record profits already HAVE tax cuts and the job market is still in the tank. Continuing them is going to change that? No. But if they paid their fair share, there would be enough money to create jobs rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, for example. It would be good for the whole country.

Well, let's see if this one can explain it to you.

There should eb NO corporate taxes.  You, as a business owner, should not pay taxes on your business income THEN pay it again on your personal income.  If you could keep those taxes, what do you think you would do with ti?

Me?  I'd fatten my own pockets and pay taxes.  Excess would go back into the company savings account that I'd use to expand my business thereby hiring new employees thereby creating more taxpayers.

I also have compassion for my fellow man, Ono.  I believe in teaching a man to fish. You would rather give them a fish.  I think my way is more compassionate, you disagree.

Unob, there are people who are too old or too sick to learn to fish. There are too many conservatives who have absolutely no compassion for those whose circumstances will not ALLOW them to "get a job". I see on these internet forums, people who think "I've got mine, if you don't or CAN'T get yours, too bad!"

While I agree there are a lot of people who are "working the system", that doesn't mean there aren't even more who NEED the system just to survive. If the government would put some money into hiring people to POLICE the system, there would be that many more jobs, and that many fewer people taking advantage of the system to get things they don't deserve.

Speaking as one of those accused conservatives,   I am all for helping the old and the sick. Being closer to both makes it very important. I do not like the government telling me HOW to do that. SS and Medicaid, Medicare, are all good programs that need massive over site as you said. Closing loop holes, dropping deductions and going with a fair tax would fix all the problems. More revenue more fairly spread out and no fat cats ducking taxes.

The problem is, NO ONE WILL VOTE FOR IT because of lobbyists and political BS.

Shoot the lobbyists, make the president and VP come from different parties, and get some actual reform of the tax code.

Hi all,

I have to agree with the philosophy -- teach a man to fish and he feeds himself and his family for life.  Give a man a fish -- and he will be back tomorrow for more fish.

On taxes -- a flat tax of one level, say 10% on all people, and a flat tax of some other level for businesses.

Party affiliation -- having a president from one party and a vice president from another would be like having a quarterback from Auburn throwing passes to a tight end from Alabama -- not much for success.  And, California is living proof of this.   Many times we have had a governor and a lt. governor from opposite parties.  They spend all their time undercutting one another -- and, as a consequence, the state is always in trouble.

What we need in America is less welfare, especially for illegal immigrants; less federal government  -- and less giving fish with more teaching to fish going on.  Just my thoughts.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day

Bill
