Chicago Cafe is running an ad claiming to be the ONLY authentic chicago food in the Shoals and the owner is well aware of Mug.com,I just find falsehoods annoying esp. wen chicago cafe has good food and great service and didn't need to take this avenue hopefully all businesses will enjoy great success and keep it on the up n up.

I think it's tacky to claim to be the "only" of whatever in an area unless you can document it but I won't hold that against them to much if their deep dish pizza is good. Is it the type with a thin crust and about an inch of toppings? Not to greasy that it can't be eaten with a fork but not to dry either? If so where is this place? I want a Chicago style deep dish pizza ASAP.
Chicago Cafe is located in downtown Florence on Mobile St, which is currently under construction. It's right behind Grogan Jewelers.
It's a great place to eat. Very family friendly. The service is great, and if you have a problem, they are always willing to cooperate accordingly. I;ve spoken to their owner a few times and learned that indeed their food is legit because it is ordered from Chicago. I've eaten at both Mug.com and Chicago Cafe and both have good food. I've only eaten at MUg.com once though. Personally, I prefer Chicago Cafe because Mug.com puts jalapenos on their Chicago dogs, and that is not how they are served in Chicago.
To get back to why u started this topic Matted Down, you said Chicago Cafe is running an ad claiming to be the ONLY authentic chicago food in the Shoals and the owner is well aware of Mug.com. Where did you see the ad?

As for Chgo Cafe vs Mug.com, I have to say the Mugs. I live in Muscle Shoals and am at the Mugs minimum once a week. I've only been to the Cafe twice for the pizza both times. Mugs has no pizza but they have a pretty large menu as oppose to the Cafe. I have a menu sitting right in front of me, they have homemade pasta dishes, homemade chili, the chicago fire and flicker, gyros (have to say they are the best in the area) and reuben sandwiches. They also are a full espresso bar, which I can't live without.
nOT TO ARGUE BUT: Chicago style pizza is one thing that no one will ever win the argument over. There are many famous places there that serve excellent pizza but some of the neighbor taverns in the area serve pizza that will make your tongue beat your mouth to death. I have tried for 12 years; since moving back to the shoals to find pizza that i considered, (chicago-style). Some come close but close only counts in horseshoes and hand granades.
Hot dogs are another subject. The north side of Chicago uses sport peppers while the south side uses some so hot that the peppers will cook the hot dog without any other heat. Mug.com comes close. They use vienna dogs and buns with poppy seeds as they should. Not sure what is missing but maybe celery salt. I lived in the Chicago area for fort-five years and i think i had some of the best. The many road-side hot dog vendors always put a handful of french fries in the wrapper with dog. Just MOPO of this. Thank You.
Pooh's dad, it's my understanding that hot peppers are a recent invention on the Southside. (Can't get Jim Croce out of my head now!)

Even the Vienna Beef website mentions only sport peppers.

When I was just a wee one I loved telling the vendors, "Drag it through the garden!" Haven't had one in a long time, but I'm hungry for one right now, even though it's breakfast time.
Chicago Cafe (Or Chicago Dog as some of us regulars call it) is great. Only place I will eat a hot dog cos I trust that it is all beef. They have a special lime green relish that is authentic to Chicago and is ordered in. It makes the dog. Also- The owner is a great guy and it is a family run business.
I was just in Mug.Com today and they were upset because someone has accused them of attempting to trash Chicago Cafe.
As Cindy stated, we do not wish Chicago Cafe any negative slams, as Chicago Cafe has a right to be proud of what they do.
They are not in competion with Chicago Cafe in that it is located in Florence and they in Muscle Shoals.
They are sure the Chicago Cafe owner works hard at putting out the best for his customers, just as they do.
Mug.Com realizes just by the nature of the business they will not meet 100% of the time, every customer's expectation even thought they try. Neither will Chicago Cafe or any other eating establishment in the area.
Cindy went on to state, from observing what they have read on the forum about Chicago Cafe, they seem to be doing a good job and commends them for going that extra mile for their customers.
They are proud to have another Ex-Chicagoin going the extra 125% to indocrinate us Southerners about food from the windy city.

They recommend if you are in the area of Chicago give them a chance to train you in the art of Chicago Style eating. If you are in the Muscle Shoals Area, they will do the same. Jim and Cindy both think it is childish to see such tit for tats being written about Chicago Cafe or themselves.
In regards to that, I totally agree. I have eaten at both places and find that each owner has their own style of doing things. But regardless of style there is no doubt that each are attempting to give you the best they can produce to keep you coming back again and again. I commend both of these places, as they work hard for your loyalty.
