If you can't do a burger correctly then you may as well shutter your doors. I am not concerned that others like the food there, it takes all types, I am just surprised. If you look at the history of this tread it is full of shills, MAM78 (the owner) posted early drumming up interest and giving the impression he was simply a customer. Others who have posted here are employees or friends/family, not surprised but it is a bit dishonest.
I still strongly believe that this business will fail. The location is a tough one and the overhead is probably crippling. Unusual specials like the stuffed catfish will pique occassional interest but your core menu has to be able to sustain you through the tough season ahead.
A burger is the easiest thing in the world to get right as well as the easiest way to judge the rest of the menu. So, no I will not be back. They failed miserably twice at getting a burger right, from over well done meat to almost stale bread.
If the owners and friends would spend less time excoriating those who disagree with their idea of "awesome" and more time fixing the quality of food and service, they may have something.
I am not angry. This forum is in place to express an opinion and it is just that, take it for whatever you want.
As for you being dishinest, I never said you were. The obvious shill job by the owner, employees and friends, is dishonest.
The post regarding Crocodile Ed's was not negative overall. I will continue to post here as long as the personal nature of the replies continue. For me there is nothing personal, I have no vendetta against Fatboy's or the other posters on this site.
Well, I haven't been there yet. The crowds are too big. I'll wait until it's easier to get in and get seated.

Those saying "when they close down" seem to be 'jumping the gun' a little bit. Then again, if they (Fatboys) last 30 years and the owners decide to retire (I don't have a clue who the owners are), then I guess you can say "I told you so!!" Wink
I finally went to eat there this weekend and it was delicious!!!! We got the Fried Bacon as a appetizer. I got the Chicken Tender Sandwich and chips and my husband got the Fatboys Burger and fries. Everything was wonderful!!! My chips came with a little cup of dip that was great with it and my husbands fries came with a little dipping sauce also that were great compliments to our sides. I could not even finish my sandwich, I had to bring half of it home with me. I really wanted to get a dessert but I had no room!!! The only complaint I have is that I had heard a lot about the biscuits with the citrus sauce that they bring you before your meal but we didnt get any. I didnt think about it until about halfway thru our meal and I looked around and noticed that none of the other patrons around us had any either. Not that we did not have enough food by any means but I just wanted to try them because I heard they were so good!! I will definately be going back and if I dont get the biscuits again I will ask about them.
I have eaten at Fatboys several times now. I thought it was great each time.

And as for Shoals Whiner, you should pack up your tiaras and tutus and move your flaming cornhole back to mom and pops. You act as though you and your family have set the standard for restaurants nationwide.

They havn't.

I'm not sure where you hail from, but Florence is glad to have Fatboys.
Wow, you are the king of the stinging retort!
I don't know why you are so upset with someone who disagrees with your opinion. If you wish to continue shoveling that dreck down your man-pleaser, go ahead.
Darkvader spewed:
After just a quick sampling of the posts on this thread, I see that your elitist, feeble minded opinion false into the minority. It seems as though most people like Fatboys.

This tells me that you are not normal. You are not like most folks, and so as a result, neither I, or anyone else reading this gives a hot **** about anything that you might say.

So continue to flap your goober-smoocher in the wind (as a third generation homosexual, I'm sure you do this quite well), and while you're at it.... call mom and dad. See if they have held your table bussing position open for you.

Or at this point, you might be better suited for the grinding of the meat, because I have heard that you have handled plenty.

They know you will be back. They knew you were an idiot long before you ever graced this town or this forum with your elitist, idiotic rantings.

So please do us all a favor..... Go home.
Your daddy missed you.
My, my, my, I must have struck a chord!

It is obvious by your razor wit, culinary acumen and mastery of our language, that one should not trifle with you.
Someone in my family is a doctor, but I'm not online giving surgery advice.
Perhaps had you worked within a surgical suite, if just as an assistant, you might have some insight.

I worked several years as a commis, so I have at least a passing knowledge of kitchen function and how to prepare food properly.

As for your tired personal attacks: If that is the best you can do, take a break do some reading, broaden your vocabulary and sharpen your wit. You are no Oscar Wilde.
I finally went here to eat this past Thursday. My wife got the turkey melt and I got the chicken tender sandwich. Both were excellent, very tasty and the portions were more than the both of us could finish. She got the sweet potato fries which were great and I got the standard fried which were good too. The owner came over spoke to us and made sure our food was good and made sure we enjoyed it. The place was packed when we left. This will not be the last time I eat here.
I related my experience to my friend who went for his first time the next day and he had the ruban. He said the same as I and had to take the rest of his home to finish the next day. Glad this place is doing so well.
Wow, since people who have had a bad experience at Fatboys are not allowed to post here, I guess I'll just keep to myself. I have only been once, so hopefully it was just the person cooking that night but I really do not know how any of the 4 dishes we got could have been allowed out of the kitchen.

They take orders by phone and you can pick it up at the drive through but even though it was crowded when we went, we got a table right away. It seats a LOT more people than you would think.
I've eat at Fatboys 4 times now. All experiences were great. I made it clear to the owner, when he talked to us, that I was trying it out and that if I got a bad meal and had to pay for it, I would not be back. I told him that I had bad experiences at two local establishments and had to pay for meals at both places after legitimate complaints were ignored. I have never been back to either.

Shoals diner, if you had a bad experience at Fatboys, I don't blame you for not going back. But, I don't see Josh making anyone pay for a meal that wasn't right. You should have left the uneaten meal at the table and asked for him to see to it. He would have made it right with you if he was there. But, I'm not beating up on you, either. If it wasn't what you wanted, you should not have had to pay for it. And dittos to you about Croc Ed's. I think it sucked, too.
Posting good and bad gives everyone an opinion of the service and food at a specific place. Then that person can make a decision if they want to eat there or not. Every place has a bad night and even food that some people won't like. I have eaten at Fatboy's 4 times and I have tried different things. I don't like some things that they have but others on here do. I do like the turkey melt and the chicken tender sandwiches, they are my favorites. The porkcicles are not good to me but that's my opinion.
Perhaps the story got twisted because they recently announced that they're going to be closed on Sundays.

Just my opinion here, but the food just isn't the same there anymore. Had lunch from there today and we threw it away after a few bites. The last four times we've ordered from there they were out of multiple items that we wanted. Too bad. We really liked the place until recently. I was one of their biggest supporters! But it didn't look like they were closing tomorrow. Not as busy as they have been, but not dead.
Facebook message from fatboys grille:

"FatBoys Grille Alright, the rumors are true. Saturday the 31st is our last day. Come early, we are cooking until the cupboard is bare. Thank you all for the great memories and we will miss you terribly."

Honestly, I am not surprised for a number of reasons.

This is the type of place I would go to twice a month. I believe that's part of the problem. It's not the type of place most people will/can go to numerous times in a week. Other than it being extremely unhealthy(for the most part) it can get expensive for a family(at least for alabama standards)

My first few visits in January, February were great. I was always met with a long wait. Place was always packed. However, I didn't mind. I was greeted with those yummy, YUMMY, yummy orange biscuits..

Oh yeah..about the biscuits...

Fatboys stopped serving his signature biscuits around the first of March. The staff claimed "the oven is broken. We can't find anyone to fix it." Now, I am no culinary expert. But, you mean to tell me you cant find any person in the tri-state area to ficx your oven? They used this excuse until ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. They posted a facebook message saying the biscuits were now available to BUY as an appetiser, fine. (5 months to get an oven fixed)

Next complain- WAIT TIME

I am no scrooge. I don't mind waiting if the food is good. I never go to a restaurant in a big hurry...but...How long does it take to cook burgers?

Each time i visited throughout march, april, may, june and my last visit a few weeks ago were progressively worse.

Last week a friend and I went. We both ordered double fatboys with fries, simple enough. Only 6 other people were in there. It took 22 minutes to get our order! This has happened numerous times at fatboys. I have gone there alone and waited 20+ minutes. It really doesnt bother me. But I can see why people will skip fatboys if they are in a hurry, lunch break, etc.

Remember the biscuits? I tried to order them as an appitiser last week. After we waited for 15 minutes, the waitress informed us "oh, the biscuits are not done yet. Your food will probably beat them to the table. You still want them?" Hmpf, well, you don't seem overly anxious to give them to us. I guess not.

Over all, each visit I noticed a less and lesser crowd. I imagine the wait time, cost, food availability had something to do with it. I have been there(fairly early)and routine menu items were not availabile, hmpf.

I had a friend that worked there until about a month ago. She also cited management as a problem. She said the managers often pushed away employees by treating them harshly. She said it was impossible to work for them. She didn't cite Josh himself, but her boss. She told me costs and other things were out of control. She was not surprised to hear of its closing.

I new it was bad my last visit about 9 days ago. Josh himself was running the register. I only saw 1 other employee(my waitress) When I checked out, Josh was fumbling with the register. "I may be the owner. But I'm learning this register deal", he says to me.
