Whew, we've got more flies than ever at our house this year. They've always been numerous, but this year is worse. It is as if we've got a cattle lot near by.

Any remedies for this? Near us (but not close at all) are some goats--but too far for their flies to get all the way over here, I'd think.

Do you think farmers near us might be using some of that human waste that's been composted? Would that bring lots of flies? I can't smell anything different out here--no odd odors.

This probably sounds like what a redneck would do, but consider the source Big Grin Get some good duct tape hang about three feet from the ceiling works just like the old timey fly traps. The flies love the smell of the adhesive and fly in to get a taste and you got them. They will cover the tape up and you can throw them in the garbage. Here are some more solutions Link

Duct Tape it holds the world together
the flies are extra bad this year, mom. i've had horses for years and so have been noticing for a long time, and the flies are noticeably worse this year. ticks are, too, by the way.

good thing is that usually right now, when they first bloom out, is the worst. hopefully in a few weeks, there will be fewer of them.
Well, there you go, proof that duct tape will fix anything. hee/hee

Our problem isn't flies. It's ants, definitely worse this year. Thankfully, Terro is the most awesome ant bait ever. I'm just having to use it more often. I kill one bunch, all clear for about a week or so & in moves a new bunch.

Yes i have ants BAD. I even had an exterminator out and it worked for about a week now they're back.

About the flies put water in a ziplock bag and hang it on a nail around the outside of your house. The flies thinks it's a hornet nest and won't come around. Sounds crazy but it works.

Thanks, hottmoma, that does sound crazy--but I'll give it a go. Now, how to keep the hornets away? Smiler We have some of those--not terribly many--but one of my kids is allergic to them, so one is too many. Wish there was some kind of repellant to put around the yard for those.
