anybody else heard this lately?

Just curious what credibility you give to this source for what you were told?  I mean is this a person that is in a position to know or just a patron that may be speculating based upon the number of patrons at the time?

I for one hope the rumor is just that and that there is nothing to it but then the economy is bad and many restaurants are looking to downsize.  Others (businesses) are very much afraid of the healthcare bill and what all regulations that will come with it as well as additional cost.  I so hope I am wrong but one business owner told me that people don't really know or see what an encumbrance the new healthcare bill will put upon business owners and he ventured to estimate that many small businesses will go under and choose to leave the business just because of the healthcare bill when it goes into effect.    Just like your rumor regarding Chili's I take this business owner's words about the healthcare legislation with a measure of unbelief because frankly I just don't know enough about it to say dogmatically either way.  I hope and pray though that the is very wrong about the healthcare bill because if he is accurate then I don't see how our nation can avoid an all out depression solely account of healthcare.

Sadly as with Chili's only time will tell.

Just as an update everytime I've passed by it appears they have great business so maybe that's just a viscous rumor and will turn out to be false.  Also I've noticed that Ruby Tuesday's has great crowds also.  I would say that it was due to O'Charlies closing but O'Charlies never had the traffic that would explain the increase to Chilis, Applebees and Ruby Tuesdays.

I really don't think it's a matter of jobs that restaurants have closed.  I think it's a combination of too many fern bars for the given population AND the local citizens are just not very sociable--in comparison with great restaurant places like Cool Springs (Franklin) and Hwy 280 (Mountain Brook.)  A few restaurants seem to have great sales, however they have a clientele of often returning customers.

Being the belt buckle of the Bible belt doesn't help.  Also, the 50/50 rule on food/alcohol sales keeps the price of alcohol so unaffordable that we no longer even drink it.

We all know that college students live on fast food and cheap beer--two things of which are not available near UNA.  That's why so many students go home on weekends.
