Florence city tax rate increasing by 1%.  May not be much, just 1%, meaning that the Sales Tax for purchases made in the city will rise from 8.5% to 9.5% and at least they didn't scream for the usual reasons.  Usually, whenever a tax increase is sought they scream that it's for education and for teachers.  I'm all for increasing the pay level for firefighters and police and even for keeping our Educational system competitive and the 1% tax rise isn't that egregious to me.

I just am never surprised to hear the pitch for new or higher taxes due to education rather than for the other reasons that are just as important.  I still think that the county rate, for items shipped to a county address, outside city limits, is around 5.5% but then folks like Amazon.com usually use the higher city rate rather than the county rate that they should use and that does become a problem or should be but then it's often tough to find anyone at amazon.com that will listen to anything.

several issues here,,, first the shell game.   tell taxpayers the money is for one thing,  then shuffle some of money that was going there to something else.

Second the buying population for Florence is above 250,000.  just look around there are people coming from way outside of Florence to shop.   Sadly our city leaders just keep spending and wasting money.   I am not sure how much goes in their pockets and to their family and friends.

Then what is a fair wage?    The merry go round is govt. compares to other govt. areas.  One raises,, then another, then another until the first raises and starts it all over again.

Remember when they keep talking about benefits (some may be to young) ?   the poor govt. employee didn't get paid much so they deserve better benefits.  Then when govt. benefits became better than private sector they started hitting the wage thing.   Remember govt. employees get more paid days off than anyone.

Sad the our elected officials will turn numbers and not give all the truths.  Often they are more misleading than all the advertisings we hear.    yep Chevy just got caught on their advertising of being most reliable while selling junk.  reminds me of Toyota ad about safety.  Toyota had a safety challenge, so what did they do? They advertised that safety was important, leading people to believe their cars were safe.   wasn't a lie just misleading, which guess could be a lie.
