It was sure a peaceful place to shop.  There were no people there which resulted in huge operating losses.

It's just a matter of time before all KMarts and their affiliated Sears stores close.

Madison Mall in Huntsville is a sad looking place. Sears was the only anchor store I saw open. There was a sign for JC Penney, but didn't check them out.

I don't know for sure but I suspect it was many reasons.  For one the person that bought out K-Mart corporate also purchased Sears at the same time.  Sears in Florence Mall is now closing at 6PM most days and if you go in there you will see a shell of the store it used to be (my opinion) as many of the stocked items are no longer in stock and there are lots of portions of the store that are almost vacant.  I am worried that Sear's will also be taken down.

Another reason that K-mart may have left is that they do have the Muscle Shoals store and it's located in a place that is growing in Muscle Shoals what with the new Publix at that corner.  Could be Academy Sports made them an offer they couldn't refuse to turn down.  I think I had heard once that the same guy that bought out Sears and K-Mart was closing stores of both brands all over the country based upon how busy they were.  I always thought that the Florence K-Mart was much nicer than the Muscle Shoals store but what do I know.

Your preference, unfortunately, was not shared by enough other folks to keep the place financially viable.  Walmart awaits your patronage, but be prepared to jostle with the crowds there who DO pay their money to make that store profitable.

Nice to be retired.  We can go shopping in the slower business hours.  :-)

Being retired, that is my practice also, but dixiegal might not enjoy the perks of retirement. After about 10 p.m., things will have slowed down considerably at Walmart. Unless one is working a night shift, that time frame should work for those who don't like a lot of company while they shop.
