Florence Police Officers Memorial

I like the idea. If your interested in funding ideas and/or a location, consider an "Shoals Fallen Heroes" memorial out at Veterans park. Include police, fire and veterans that were killed in combat. "Cast a large net" to secure the funding.

It's my understanding that the current memorial at Veterans' Park is for those killed in service to their country.

It's always difficult to include others in military memorials, etc. The Athens Veterals Museum has done so and has taken some flack for it. One may buy a brick in memory of or in honor of anyone. There has been talk of taking up the bricks and establishing separate areas for them, but nothing has come of it so far.

The site that it may be on is not at Veterans park, but at where the old National Guard Armory building used to be at.

Great idea. Let's do it. The sooner the better.

Where could one see a drawing of this memorial? This is a wonderful idea. My father was killed in the line of duty as a police officer in Florence.

I think we should do it at a visible and accessible place and do it for the Police only and not blur it with other things, though worthy themselves. A Police Memorial will be a good thing and showing that respect is good for the families, the department, and the city itself. Let's go!
