Here's a little game for the 30s and up folks on here.. I've got a list of things to buy, but it's 1982, in Florence. Where would YOU buy them? Keep in mind, Wal Mart opened in 1984...

1) bicycle tube
2) roll of yarn
3) 45rpm record single
4) ground beef
5) tv set
6) shoes

If this thread goes for a while, someone should make another list..

Foodworld was built as Foodworld, before that it was an empty lot. BigB drugs was next to FoodWorld.
The other stores didn't appear until a few years later.

Big K was originally in Town Plaza then it moved to Hwy. 72. The old Kmart building behind the bowling alley was originally built as Maxim's.

And don't forget the Wilson Drive-in on Hunstville road.

Great memories of the Norwood! it's where i saw all the old Beach Blanket movies Smiler

LOL! I said Payless, and thats what I meant to say, was Pic-N-Pay.
That was my favorite shoe store as a little girl.

& I see where joeycuda said TG&Y.
My grandfather was manager of the TG&Y that used to be in downtown Florence on Court Street, until it closed, then he moved to the 7 points location.
I have many great childhood memories of TG&Y!

i remember the Cinema and was there many times.
Martin Park - Where exactly was the pond?

I remember that, in the early 80s, those tunnels were closed up and locked, then one day I saw them open and there were trains in there. Seems that there used to be a passenger train that went around the park. I wonder whatever happened to that train and equipment?? Any info about the train or memories?

The pond was in the middle where the playground is now located. It was pretty big.
I rode the train many times when i was little and going through the tunnel was a big thrill. I think the train was closed down after some injuries occured.
They also use to have some great Easter egg hunts in the park.
