Could someone please tell me what type of tree it is that's flowered out in white all over the Shoals area. Also I've noticed what appears to be a pink petaled version of the same type of tree that has also bloomed out, are they the same types of tree? I've also noticed a larger purple bloomed tree and I believe that this is what I've always heard called tulip trees, am I correct?

The white ones are Bradford Pear trees. They are gorgeous right now.

Do these Bradford Pear trees bear fruit? I noticed that Porter's Nursery on Woodward Ave has several of the smal Bradford Pear trees for sale up near the front of his place that have flowers on them already. Thank you for your reply too.

It flowers and produces little not edible fruit and they kinda smell bad.

The white flowering trees are Bradford Pears. They are beautiful but I would not recommend planting them. They are notorious for splitting into during high winds and are easily damaged.

The pink flowering tree is Saucer Magnolia, which are commonly referred to as Tulip Trees.

The Bradford Pear trees are hybrid and should never be pruned. Pruning can lead to the splitting someone else mentioned.

but then if you don't prune them properly, they will beak all over the place during the next ice storm. proper pruning is a must if you want to keep one of these things.

that said, i would not have one. in addition to breaking limbs, they have really shallow root systems and topple over in strong winds. they are weeds in my book.
