In the third paragraph of the article it says:

"the panel is unlikely to ban the petroleum-based dyes in question, such as Yellow 5, Red 40 and six others"

Really, PETROLEUM based dyes? Crap! I assumed all food dyes would be either water based or maybe that veggie oil wold be used. I assume when they say petroleum that they mean regular old oil base and that it would exclude veggie, canola, and other oils used in cooking.
I hope the FDA will step up and get hormones, antibiotics, and other chemicals out of our food. I'm sprouting moobs!
Captain O.,

You know all the righties are gonna scream, "We don't want any government intervention!"

These people would rather die of heart disease and cancer than have a - God forbid - GOVERNMENT agency look out for them. Of course, eating fruits and veggies instead of Hamburger Helper and Pepsi would prolong life too, but no one seems to care (I refer you to the news story about Alabama being number 2 in the unhealthy eating category).

Anyway, look at the bright side of growing moobs: Your sex reassignment surgery will cost much less now. Wink
BFred, it's petroleum, not food oils-based that many artificial colors are made with. (no nit-picking on that preposition's position, please! lol)

Artificial colors, flavorings, preservatives and scents really affect two of our kids. They are hyper when eating/smelling/drinking things that have artificial ingredients. What helped our kids: www.adhdDiet.com There are studies there you can look up, as well as some testimonials--really amazing stories about kids who have been helped tremendously.
My wife is SEVERELY allergic to red dye. You'd be surprised how many NON-red-tinted items have red dye in them. Why can't beet juice be used IF something absolutely, positively HAD to be RED?

On another note, when the junior high I taught at removed the RED 'Power Aid' drinks (much to the dismay of the students) from the school cafeteria, there was a significant drop in disciplinary issues.
so... beet flavored M&M's?
YUM.

i try to avoid procesed foods when i can, but i don't obsess about it.

there are possible links between some processed foods and diseases like alzheimers and parkinsons..

possible links.. not proven connections...
so i'm still looking at that. those are definatly two of the more horrible things a person be afflicted with, along with alzheimers and parkinsons. there might be a link between those and processed foods. they are still looking at the possible connection, but nothing is definate.
