Cypress Lakes in Muscle Shoals is a very nice golf course. It is semi-private so if you aren't going to play there every weekend you should just pay daily fee whenever you want to play.

However, they have a nice clubhouse, locker room, weight room, tennis courts and pool, so if you would use those things too, a membership might suit your needs. The golf course is pretty short, but there is a lot of water and it can be challenging, especially if the wind is blowing. It is more of a shot maker's course, in that you don't need power to score well. YOu will have to hit good iron shots to stay out of the bunkers and out of the water. I love to play golf there.

Of course, the RTJ courses are AWESOME and are supposedly among some of the best public golf in the country, and especially on the RTJ Golf trail.

There is a place in Courtland that I can't remember the name of, but it is pretty nice and a little cheaper than the other two.

If you are just looking for muni courses, then Spring Park in Tuscumbia is a good bet for some cheap golf.

Tennessee Valley Golf and Country Club in Tuscumbia is also pretty good, but it only has a 9 hole course and not near the amenities of Cypress Lakes, but it is much cheaper.

Hope this helps!!
Joe Wheeler State Park in Rogersville has a very nice course. Some of the fairways are a little rough, but the beautiful scenery makes up for it. Anderson has a course that I've played several times, it has a couple of challenging holes.

Can't speak to a membership at a club, as I haven't ever joined....just play when I get time, usually about five or six times a year.
I can't believe no one has mentioned Blackberry Trail in Florence. It is a great layout, has improved in condition over the last two years, and is not expensive as a daily fee. I understand that there is also an annual fee for individuals and for families with the family rate around 1200 for the year. That's not bad for unlimited golf. I have not heard what the amount of the individual rate is.

LOL kadams... I asked some of my golfing buddies where they liked to play, and every one of them said Blackberry. They have been to every course in town, but by and large, Blackberry was THE one to play. And we are talking about a LOT of men, who play EVERY unraining weekend!

Any suggestions on where to get a membership, or the best places to play in the Shoals area?? I haven't been in the area very long, and would appreciate any input. Thanks.

By far, the best deal in the Shoals is getting the Trail Card from RTJ. After you pay for the card, your rounds for the rest of the year are $35. A round at Blackberry is $27 and is no where close to the quality of the Trail. Blackberry does have a nice layout but the greens are horrendous. They are extremely fast and harder than concrete. Also, you can get on either of the Trail's courses for the same amount. In my opinion, the Schoolmaster is less challenging. However, the Fightin Joe has a better layout.

Alot of good suggestions so far, but,I was wondering how much you want to pay.Reason being,
Spring Creek golf course in Tuscumbia is a good place for practice, pleasure or competition.Whatever your game...it's not RTJ or Blackberry or even Tuscumbia Country Club, but,if you're looking for fun outdoors w/golf,then Spring Creek is it.Then you can go through the park and check out the water show, man made waterfall, the choo-choo-train,the carrosel, and other stuff they have added there.
Oh yea,if you're hungry....Claunches is in the park, also and the food is homemade and WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!! YOU GOTTA TRY IT.

The best place to join is NOT the Florence Golf and Country Club, they are disorganized.[/QUOTE
That's because they lost Tim King, who is the best instructor and Pro shop organizer around the Tri-Cities.
I'm not planning on dropping alot of money for my poor excuse of a game, so TP is out. I've narrowed it down to Cypress Lakes, RTJ, or Blackberry Trail. My wife likes to play tennis, plus I like to workout, so maybe Cypress Lakes is the one for us. But, how is their food? Thanks alot for the input!

Paws, I'll try Claunches. We've taken our son out there a couple of times, and I wondered how the food was. Thanks.

I have never set foot on the FG&CC...what is it particularly that makes them so disorganized?

I have belonged for a year and have yet to recieve a news letter. Until the first of Feburary when I started getting emails from them I didnt know what was going on. I find it difficult to drive out there from Killen for a meal to find they are not serving. The course is great as is the pro shop. They dont let ladies in the mens lounge so thats pretty cool.
