It appears that foreign aid to Egypt is , at it's core, a gift the the American Defense (read that "WAR") Industrial Complex .

I suspect, that most foreign aid works about the same.

The situation in Egypt is complicated.  Demonstrators against the government of Mohammed Morsi caused the military to depose him.  The demonstrators appear to include moderate Muslims, secularists, and Coptic Christians.

Morsi’s organization, the Muslim Brotherhood, is now in open warfare and demonstration against the police and military.

The Muslim Brotherhood is the results of the ideas espoused by Sayyid Qutb.  In 1949, Qutb traveled to Colorado to study.  He didn’t like what he saw.  From his experience he auth*ored The America I Have Seen.  While we would consider the work ridiculous, our grandfathers found Shickelgruber’s My Struggle ridiculous.  Except, that both men meant what they said, and meant what they wrote.

The Muslim Brotherhood is the progenitor of most of the Arab Islamist movements, outside of Saudi Arabia including, but not limited to al Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbo’Allah.

Ayman al Zawahiri, the present head of al Qaeda, developed his Islamist ideas while with the Brotherhood.  His brother, Mohammed al Zawahiri, is the head of an offshoot of the Brotherhood, the Jehadi Salafists, and is now under arrest in Egypt.

Ending support for the Egyptian military should be carefully considered, not just demanded in a reflexive, knee jerk left wing manner.  During the 1930s, the left demanded complete neutrality between Germany and our WWI allies France and the UK, while Germany and the Soviet Union signed the Molotov-von Ribbentrop non-aggression pact.  After Operation Barbarossa, front groups such as Youth Against War, became Youth Against War and Fascism.

The Muslim Brotherhood at play.  Things change, but remain the same.

FYI, there are two major Islamist movements in Saudi Arabia – Wahhabis and Salafists.  Wahhabism dates from the late 18th century and called for a return to strict early precepts of Islam in reaction to contact with the West. Salafism dates from the late 19th century and, while similar to Wahhabism, allows some modernity and was influenced by Qutb.  One thing they all have in common – they wish everyone to either convert, to their belief system, or die.

Israel has urged the U.S. not to cut off aid to Egypt.  The U.S. aid money goes to the military, and the Egyptian military opposes the Muslim Brotherhood.  Conclusion:  Keep supporting the Egyptian military and don't condemn the President if he decides on that course of action, as some inveterate Obama haters will inevitably do.

Take into consideration also that Saudi Arabia has committed to make up any loss of U.S. aid to Egypt.

Because the Koch Brothers do not want us to do anything that would get us away from using oil, and they own a lot of our Republican congressmen and Senators.

Seeweed,

There aren't a lot of readily available substitutes.  If, there were, Japan or China would be running crash programs.  NG can replace diesel for busses and large trucks.  However, the greenies are dead set against it because of fracking.  Oil is still the cheapest, most available source for vehicles.  Stop blaming everything on the Koch brothers, else you find yourself amongst Infowar and other conspiracy types.

Looks like a case for providing aid and holding nose.  Then, give the Copts sanctuary. Many of them are over here already.

We could develop our own sources of energy if the democrats would get out of the way.

So now instead of Bush’s fault it’s the Koch brothers fault even though the dem’s control the Senate and the White House. Who are you going to try to blame next?

During the sixties, the Birchers believed the communists were controlled by the Illuminati and the Rockefellers. Now, the Progressives have taken their place, seeing a Koch Brother behind every tree causing of the evils of the world.  Gentlepersons of the left, your tin foil hats are no longer enough.  Upgrade to a high grade lead foil replacement.  And, ignore the little voices in your head.

Conservatives do have the birthers who believe that a few people instigated a conspiracy to fake Obama's birth certificate.  The left has the truthers that believe the government managed to make 19 Islamists slam planes into targets, or send rockets into the Pentagon.  For magnitude alone, the lefties take the prize on those two.  Then, the Koch Bros, behind every tree for the left.  In my experience the UFO types usually are liberal to just loony.
