Forget Healthcare; without a free tank of gas to go along with it, who is going to be able to afford the gas to drive to the doctor or hospital! Gas never reached last winters low (beginning Nov. 08, Pre-Obamanation), and now it has gone up $.25 is the last 8 days in February. Can't wait to cancel my summer vacation due to $4.00 a gallon gas. Thanks Obamanation!!!

Gas prices have been rising since long before Obama took office. You must not remember the $4.00 a gallon gas summer before last, but I do. We drove to the OBX for vacation and it was horrible.

Your absolutely correct it did reach $4.00 a gallon two summers ago. Wasn't that Bushes fault? Nov. 08, Dec. 08, Jan, 09 prior to Obamanation taking over it dropped to $1.64 a gallon. With all those "CHANGE" speeches why has it only hit a low of $2.44 this Nov, Dec, Jan? I guess he didn't necessarily mean change for the good!!!

Yes, but it went back down. However, this year's drop was not as low as last year's drop. We may all be fondly recalling gas a $4 a gallon before too long.

Since when did gas prices directly reflect who is President? I thought we received our gas from the Middle East, not 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

It's always easy to just blame the person in power, as opposed to the oil companies that making billions of dollars in profit every year, right? We will always buy gas, no matter how much it costs, because we need it. We have to have it. You may b**ch about it all the time, and find someone to blame for it, but you'll still buy it.
If one is concerned about high fuel costs, it might help to see if ones pension fund isn't part of the problem.

quote:
Speculation has been blamed for driving up oil prices in 2008 and for 2009 prices that remain stubbornly high despite abundant supply and weak demand. Harm attributed to oil speculation has ranged from increasing the price Americans pay to drive their cars or heat their homes to endangering an economic recovery. At the same time that speculation is accused of elevating fuel prices, many people have made a great deal of money on speculation, including excessive Wall Street bonus poster boy, Andrew J. Hall.

But what if some of the people making money on speculation are retirees or pensioners? Does that make gambling on oil futures morally good?

As the Kansas City Star reported Tuesday, the Missouri State Employees Retirement System is a commodities speculator. At present, eight state employee pension plans invest in commodities indexes. The $6.2 billion Missouri fund led the way, with up to $500 million invested in commodities indexes heavily weighted towards energy holdings.
