This afternoon the Fox network issued a statement saying it will air regular programming Wednesday night instead of President Obama’s 100-day news conference.

“The Fox Broadcasting Company will not air the Presidential News Conference on Wednesday, April 29 at 8:00 PM (ET),” Fox said via a carefully worded statement. “Fox’s sister networks, Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network, will air the press conference in its entirety. Fox will be alerting viewers with an onscreen graphic at the top of the 8:00 PM (ET) hour that the press conference is available on Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network.”

This is the first time since Barack Obama took office that a one of the big four broadcast networks has refused the president’s request for primetime coverage.

ABC, CBS and NBC will carry the president’s telecast.

FOX News not carrying Obama's press conferences or speeches is nothing new. They did the same to Clinton. They are hoping for a 1994 but I think the American people are smarter than that this time, except for the paranoid neocons.

Read for a change. Fox News is covering obumas reading of the teleprompter. The Fox channel is not (channel 5 on my TV).

Hey dummy, read for once. Fox News is covering obumas reading of the teleprompter. The Fox channel is not (channel 5 on my TV).

I'm sure NoBlewC will carry it since they were a major supporter of o'guano during the campaign.
A broadcast network tired of having it's primetime programming interrupted yet again?

Primetime is when they pay their bills.

You don't get ad-time during Presidential speeches, but the big networks are expected to capitulate to such "public interest" stories.

This may backfire on Fox. Who knows.

But what I find more entertaining is the comments on the Fancast story that skymaster linked to in the original post.

Apparently the lion's share of people commenting didn't actually read past the first line of story, which states clearly that Fox News will be covering the conference, just not broadcast Fox.

The usual circus of "lolFauxNews" and "you call that fair and balanced?" replies is both gratifying and exasperating to those of us that can actually tell the difference between broadcast and cable channels.
In some ways it doesn't make sense for every broadcast outlet available to carry the press conference. There are some people who are truly not interested in politics and, believe it or not, never vote anyway. Of all the broadcast networks I suspect Fox still doesn't have the same coverage as some of the old timers, but that is irrelevant. Fox is obviously looking to cash in on those who don't really care (and I'm not saying that in a bad way).

The difference between Fox News and Fox Television is night and day. First, Fox News is a cable medium and, while the available audience is smaller, the costs are smaller too. Of course the available audience is changing with satellite.

Some people will make a political issue out of this decision (of all party persuasions). I think it is more an economical decision catering to the political agnostics. Obviously they have advertisers that agree.

Before every one has a duck, very few channels are going to cover it. Fox News 49 on Comcast is going to cover it. As for Fox channel 5, they have regular programming as does CBS, ABC, NBC.

There are only four showing it. CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, and FNC.

Good point! There is no need for everyone to carry the press conference. I know to some it may sound like apathy, but those who wouldn't watch it would do something else anyway.

Of course, maybe we should turn off everything and get some exercise. And I'm not joking. I need it. I'll read about the speech the next day. There is little I can do about it watching it live. Things aren't going to change just because I watch it.

And isn't change great, blewthedog? I remember when you didn't have to lock your car or the doors of your house. I remember walking in downtown Birmingham. I remember walking in downtown Atlanta. I remember when accepting a handout was shameful. I remember when divorce was shameful. I remember when having babies out of wedlock was shameful. Change? You can take your change and shove it.
Obama is getting more air time on television than Billy May or Cinch for Sham wow...

Obama is in love with the sound of his own voice and he wants you to feel the same way...he is a narcissist and is more interested in self promotion than leading our great nation or solving any of the problems he pretended to have solutions for while campaigning.
You know, I NEVER watch The Liar in Chief, however I have a suggestion for the pretender. I think I have a more fitting piece of music for his annunciation and it is entitled "Entrance of the Gladiators". Everyone knows the tune, but very few know the title. I encourage you to go to the link and enjoy what is the most appropriate music for the Obama regime.

Here's the link Entrance of The Gladiators
A word of advice for the next Obama telethon, redundant teleprompters, backup systems, failsafes, and last but not least, a "single pool feed" that will cut to a blue screen and message, "We are experiencing technical difficulties, please stand by". I mean if you can't say a few words exptemporaneously, sing a couple of verses of "God Bless America"...don't just stand there looking goofy and blank and then say, "roll it back". I don't think that is the way President Lincoln did it.

This was not a press conference. It was a scripted "dog and pony show". The reporters and their questions were "pre-selected" and the order of appearance controlled by Obama. The answers were on the ever present teleprompter. This was just more ego food for the narcissistic Obama, who loves the sound of his own voice and needs to be on television daily.

If he had to do a real news conference, it would be another "Joe the plumber" gaffe.
Everyone of Obama's press conferences were scripted. All the reporters were chosen before hand and submitted their questions for review. This bunch of whipped curs, who disguise themselves as journalists, would make the old Soviet Pravda proud.

So true. Not one national reporter from any major network. Even Helen Thomas could have gave us comedy relief.

You are very correct. I have not watched any of his "speeches" or "readings" since Election Night and until he is saying something different than what he's said before it is truly a waste of my time to watch him -- so instead I washed a load of laundry, watched bits and pieces of what was on every other channel other than the Big 3...and enjoyed a nice, quiet evening at home...since I am not an American Idol fan I did not really care that Fox wasn't showing it, but I'm glad they did what was best for them instead of being Obama's puppets...
What! The Obamassiah will utter forth pearls of wisdom from his sacred mouth? And the Obamatons can't understand why everyone in the country will not sit, with rapt attention, and write down his brilliant thoughts as they come from him? Perhaps even his name should be sacred...no longer should we write "Obama"; we should limit ourselves to "Ob--a" in deference to his holiness.

I suspect that his acolytes; JJ, Blew the Dog, Pogo, and the rest, will all have obamagasms at his appearance.

As an infidel, I'll probably drink scotch and watch "Two and a half men" reruns. But then, I'll probably suffer greatly for my sins.
Just to follow up on the circus act:

Obama's TV Press Conference Ratings Take a Dive

The telecast to mark President Barack Obama’s 100th day in office pulled in the smallest number of prime-time viewers since his inauguration, according to Nielsen Ratings reported by THR.com.

Audience fascination with Obama’s news conferences is apparently in a downward spiral, with 28.8 million viewers tuning in Wednesday night’s much touted news conference.

That figure represents a 29 percent drop from the president’s previous news conference on March 24, and a 42 percent fall from his first, on Feb. 9, according to the Nielson report.

The numbers from the president’s last three prime-time news events tell the story, with 49.5 million viewers on Feb. 9, 40.4 million viewers on March 24, and 28.8 million viewers on April 29.
