Franklin County authorities are searching for the body of a teenager they say drowned in the Bates Landing area Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff Shannon Oliver said an 18-year-old man was with his family when he dove from a rock into the body of water. The sheriff said family members reported seeing the teen resurface briefly before going back under the water. He never resurfaced again.

The water in the area is approximately 30 feet deep, according to the sheriff.

The Franklin County Coroner's office confirmed that there had been a drowning, but could not confirm any further details.

Sheriff's officials, divers and other crews are combing the waters looking for any sign of the teen's body. The person's name has not been released.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Divers have recovered the body of a teen drowning victim in Franklin County.

Authorities said 18-year-old Isaac Edward Linzer drowned in the Bates Landing areaSunday afternoon. Searchers combed the waters until 10 p.m. Sunday night before returning around 9 a.m. Monday to continue the search.

His body was recovered around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Shannon Oliver said Linzer was with his family when he dove from a rock into the water. His family members reported seeing the teen resurface briefly before going back under.

The water in the popular hangout spot where the teen was last seen is about 40 feet deep.

Sheriff Oliver said finding the teen is the first step in a long grieving process for the family.

"It would be hard to explain what they're going through," the sheriff said. "They were just spending time together, and this type of situation [happened]."

The Franklin County Sheriff's Department, Franklin County Dive Team, Colbert County Dive Team and Russellville Fire and Rescue were involved in the search operation.
