First, Gus, I certainly didn't mean to include you with Lexingtonians in general. You are mistaken about my roots though. I'm a North Florence girl, born and bred. I lived in Lexington for a short time and have several wonderful friends there that are like family. Unfortunately, I did see much dishonesty and bigotry. Some of that resulted in a dear friend of mine committing suicide (obviously no one forced her to kill herself, but seemingly most had rather talk behind her back than help her).

Kirk, I don't know Jaime, but the only person I've ever known by that name was a very distinguished Filipino businessman who lived in Florence and is now deceased. When I see that name I think of him. Perhaps we could lighten up and read the misc. topic on odd names; Joy and Hott have posted some good ones.
FirenveVeritas, thanks for setting me straight. I am sorry if I seemed to get too personal. While I do have Lexington roots and address, I myself do not fit into the clique. I have had my own mistakes and because of it I am considered an outsider. This is clear because none of the residents elect to hire me to work for them.

And for those people who do that or just can't see the funny in things around us, Fran is building a special putt-putt golf hole with a monkey, and a place you can put your head.

AMEN JAIME!!!! I don't know him personally but I know their work and have worked with some of his employees. That bunch is a class act and, if some folks on here are wound so tight that they can't understand them having a good time with their product, then they can stay home. Talking about Monkey Butts and Fart Smells are being too immature? Guess what folks, We are talking about a funpark!!!!

Sounds like you old geezers (in body or in mind, whichever it is) need to stay at home and warm up the rocking chair. The Shoals is trying to move on and it sounds like it needs to leave you behind.

Kirk

Jaime, I assume by your name that you're Hispanic. I don't know if you know about true democracy or not. When you say elections aren't important you don't know what you're talking about. When nobody even wants to be mayor that's bad.

But I do live up that way and I hear he won't be mayor long, so theres good as well as bad. Happy July.

Trutooit, if I were you, I would not go around making assumptions. No I am not Hispanic. I am a guy that grew up in the Rogersville/Anderson/Lexington area and graduated from Lauderdale County High School (Rogersville) with 4 other guys with the same name. None of Hispanic background. There was me, 3 Jamie’s and 1 Jamy. Yes in the same class. Then our senior year we had a Spanish exchange student and guess what his name was…. Yes that’s correct… Jaime. It is a popular guy’s name also. (or at least it was in the early 70’s when our Mom’s gave birth to us…lol…) Yes my name is spelled the Spanish way, but don’t make assumptions about my nationality. I am a proud American, born and raised in North Alabama.

At what point did I make the statement that elections are not important?? I NEVER have and NEVER will say that our right to hold elections was unimportant!!! People have died to give us that right and I do not and will not take that lightly. What I was trying to say is that if a town didn’t have anyone that wanted to be mayor at the time, that doesn’t mean anything about the people of the town. No it’s not necessarily a good thing, but sometimes that’s just life in a small town. Most people are just trying to keep their own lives on track. They have no time for anything else.

Fire, I’m so sorry about your friend. And yes you are correct about dishonesty and bigotry. But it’s not limited to Lexington and I know you didn’t mean it that way. It makes me sick, but that happens all over the place. But that is a discussion for another time.

Mekirk2 said it best…. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A FUNPARK! Smiler

Sorry if that looked like it was directed any anyone other than trutooit. He/She specifically called Jaime out and, since he did it out of my quote instead of Jaimes, I felt obliged to jump in and call a spade a spade.

Will any one else sign my petition?????

LOL... That's too funny!!! And doable as well!!!
What child doesn't like a fart sound, we did when we were kids! and when my son had friends over it was a big joke who could poot the most smell or whatever, I just remember the cute little giggle we would here LOL, Its a Fun Park and kids love poot sounds and giggles! And don't forget all the grown men, it is a man thing!LOL
My husband and I visited Funland today and we were not only pleased with the changes that have already been made (my husband used to work there), but the postitive vision that the new owner has for the community including the young, the teens and the college crowd. I have to say that I wish him well in his quest for improving the entertainment factor for so many involved. I met him, toured the park/grounds, spoke with him at length and I say that we should give Funland a chance to become something great for The Shoals.
I carried my children a couple of weeks ago and was really surprized at how well some of the staff treated the children. Especially at the foam pit...they sit and chatted with the children and didn't just look at them with the hurry up look. I think it is going to be a really good thing. I will be back before the summer is up! Smiler

The amusement park part is EXTREMELY hot - most of the lines are not in any shade at all.
Water park part is alright. My GRAND had a good time.

Eww. Yeah that kind of sucks. But I guess as long as you went when it wasn't too hot that wouldn't be too much of an issue. Other than the heat and the lines not being shaded, did you have a good time?

Marian,
When did this happen? How long ago did you interview? That was not the current owners. If you have kept up with this you would have known that Funland was recently bought by a new owner. That's what this post is all about. Why would you even want to give the impression that what you experienced was in any way tied to the current owner? That's a bit unfair to the new owners don't you think?

The owner is Fran Guerra, he is a Cuban-American and does live in Lexington. He is from Miami originally and was once a cruise ship magician when he hit onto how to make snow machines. Now his company gets a lot of Hollywood work and also in Atlanta and NYC. They also make Flogos which are giant helium filled bubbles that come out of a machine that each is custom stencilled for and he makes the machines in Lexington.

My sister and brother in law worked the Flogo machine in Central Park last spring and you ought to see the fantastic pix they have of a giant Sheraton Hotel "S" floating over the PanAm building. Kids all ran into the park and they were parked across the street from the Dakota building and all the residents went outside to watch them float over Manhattan. She learned how to ride the subway and Path trains by cell phone from me! "Where are you, can you see the Empire State Building?" Her, "Yes, it is on my right . . . " "See Madison Square Garden?" "Yes, well that is where they keep the trains. It is also Penn Station." "OK, I see the train to the Meadowlands is going to board downstairs in 5 mins." "They are all downstairs and I bet a lot more trains than 5 mins. Miss that one and catch the next. It's really just the subway only in NJ. Just as crowded and smelly."

I was there and helped develop his idea on floating logos. When we first did it, we tried hydrogen just for the fun of it. We would let them float up and then ignite the hydrogen.(from a safe distance of course) Smiler That was blast...no pun intended...lol

Marian, I'm sorry if I sounded harsh... I just didn't want people to get the wrong impression of Fran. Fran is a great guy. He's not the "oh look at me" type of guy. He's a straight up hands on type of guy. On the weekends you will more likely find him working among his employees rather than sitting behind a desk. Saturday I went to Funland to take some friends from Germany and he was running the go-carts in the 102 heat index. That's just the type of person he and his family is.

I will let you guys in on a little secret as well... He has in his plan to have Helicopter rides eventually at the park. No time frame yet but it's in his plans. I have flown his helicopter and have ridden with him on many occasions. There is nothing more beautiful than to see our area from the view and freedom of a helicopter.
