Kool-Aid drinker is a pejorative term to describe those who blindly follow, and buy into, the worldview of others. Often used in the corporate world to describe employees who religiously follow the corporate 'Mission Statement', etc. They have "Drunk the Kool Aid."

The term (in this current usage) derives from the 1978 mass suicide at Jonestown, northwestern Guyana, wherein Peoples Temple cult leader Jim Jones ordered that his followers commit suicide by drinking grape Flavor Aid (a drink alike to Kool-Aid, but less well known) laced with potassium cyanide. About 913 people died in the incident, many and perhaps most of them because they followed the order to drink. This saying, "Don't drink the kool-aid," is akin.

Brentenman, why are you giving us definitations of what we already know? And better yet, why are you insulting us throwing insults about that in our direction.

I am sorry to say this, but as old as I am, I have probably forgotten MORE than you will ever know anyway, so please, no more insults or definitations or treating us like children... please?

The phrase on this board seems like a snide insult, and I am not the only one who feels that way.
Why I posted the definition? Simple: I saw someone on another thead ask about what kool aid drinker is, where the term came from, etc.

So, I obliged so all could see.

Just because you are a "mr know-it-all" doesn't mean someone else knows it all...

This forum on several threads as a whole has gotten completely out of control.

I will debate whomever and whenever...but when bombs start getting thrown (I do not consider kool aid drinker a bomb), when someone posts something to answer the question someone else has asked, and then is bombed for it....well, it tells me the direction this forum is going to.....down the toilet. Jeez....
Kindred, I'm with you and to tell you the truth, I really thought they were calling Kool-Aid drinkers either kids or on LSD (remember I am an OLD HIPPIE) So in a way, thanks Brentenman for the definition although the way you stated it was a contradiction (follow the "corporate establishment" and "Jim Jones"; really doesn't make sense to me) but if that was the worst I was ever called, drown me in Kool Aid! This is stupid!

MADDOG, Jones made his "flock" in guiana drink poison kool aid, and I felt offended myself by the way Brent put us down with that comment on another post, so he made this one defining it.

But the thing is, I still think I have forgotten more than "SOME" will ever know, ya know? Smiler
YOUR RIGHT TAINT! Forgot all about "shrooms" Good to have some of us still around! LOL Wonder if kids these days still go "picking" out by the Forks of Cypress? I remember one of my friends had at least 100 sacks dried in his folks attic and we used to mix them up in gallon jugs. Lord, no wonder I have early "oldzhiemers" but it was worth every brain cell burned, I guess! LOL THE DOG
