Gas is reportedly already above $4.00/gallon in some places.

Use diesel? I already feel for you. So the big question is, what are you going to do when regular gas hits $4/gallon this summer?

$4.00 / Gallon Gasoline Is On It’s Way. Can You Say “Fill’er Up”?

Just when you thought it was safe to pull into the gas station, the experts are predicting that oil prices are going to continue their upward climb. Oil has been closing at new record highs almost every day lately.

Actually, we think that all Americans expect to see $4.00 $5.00/ gallon gasoline pretty soon. Well, all except President Bush. He hasn’t been in the loop when it comes to energy prices (or most anything else, apparently). Here’s a CNN video of the February 28, 2008 press conference where Mr. Bush expresses his utter bewilderment that the experts are predicting $4.00 / gallon gas. Kinda surprising, considering that he is from an oil family, from Texas, and the leader of the free world. Then again, we don’t think Mr. Bush has had to pull any of his limos up to the pump lately. To be fair, he did say he knew “it was high”. Speaking of being high…

Don't this make you wish for another 4 years of Bush and his good republican friends who love oil? Are you ready for McCain another Bush Term?

thursday, I had to go pick up a car in montgomery, and pull it back. I was in an F-350 diesel, and it used $188 worth of fuel in 10 hours. the best price I found was $3.99, and the worst was $4.39 in montgomery. I don't see how the trucking industry can sustain this. if the truckers went on strike tomorrow, I'd back them 100%! maybe then we'd see something done.

I thought it was told on here a few weeks ago that they were going to strike. What happened to that?
your guess is as good as mine. maybe it was just wishful thinking.
Well...I guess I better drop my two cents worth in as well...Between the Trucks I am running and with gas prices. I personally spend about 200 a week now just for gas in one truck. My brother spends a little more than that due to the fact he pulls the Roofing trailer. And this Dump truck will go through about 60 a week. So everyone is taking a hit. But the actual take home pay is not covering expenses. I wonder how many people have cut back on medicine and things you have got to have just so they can buy gas to get to work?. Simply amazing the government wont step in and do something. How can all these gas company's go on TV and brag about how many billions in profit they are making when the average person is barly holding on?. Expect more crime. Gas stealing. Drive off's..it's only going to get worse if the noose is not loosened. And to top it all off..Go on and throw a couple teenagers in there as well...One with a somewhat new Malibu..one with a camaro that get 50 feet to the gallon. And he also has a 01 F 150 with a 9 inch lift with 39 inch tires. Gets all but 11 mpg. I am thinking Bicycle. Ladder racks on a bicycle. Hmmmm...Wonder how that would look...Monster...think we could rig up a set of training wheels for the tippy side?...I hope this made someone feel better...because it depressed me...lol....See ya later...at the pumps....The Roofer....
I love what my Mother use to say about riding a bike ,,she said "you wear your feet out to give your butt a ride ".lol

Over here in north Ga. we paid 3.99 for premium .
Cutting back ? yes, we cant afford to buy our med's ,cant pay credit cards if we pay our house payment ,so we are sinking fast week to week . and groceries are costing more each week .

Guess you'r right. Anybody with that much arrogance and that much power just scares the crap out of me.

I heard a couple of years ago on TV the guy who was the WMD inspector before the invasion . Of course he was bitter for being fired for saying there were no WMD's in Iraq, but he was talking about how our tax dollars were supporting the cheap price of gasoline in Iraq, plus many of the talking points I use about the "war" inflating the cost of oil from the region and how much oil it is costing us just to occupy the country.
Our citizens are being raped to salvage Bush's blunder, and we should demand it stop immediately . I can't understand why anyone would want to continue this screw-up.
Sorry for the rant, haven't had all my coffee yet !
I guess we can blame the taxes on the fuel, the environmentalists who have put the restrictions on the gas companies who have to make certain blends for every different region in the US and have forced the price of diesel fule to skyrocket, but how is this the fault of the president? I can see where the government needs to step in and tell the environmentalists to blow it out there wazoo and give some relief to the refineries, but let's face it, it has not slowed down people a whole lot. I went to Lowes this weekend and you could not get in or out of the parking lot. It was crazy.

And BTW a stike by the truckers will cause food prices to skyrocket. In this country we have very little rail cpacity for moving food, we depend entirely on the trucking industry for this. Crops will ruin in the fields and in the end the fuel prices will not be affected more than a dime.
Teyates, yes , there are a lot of taxes on fuel, but those taxes go (or are supposed to go) to pay to keep up the roads and highways. In effect, it is a user tax. Also here in our two counties they go to support David Bronner's golf course, but that is another story.
McCain wants to eleminate taes on gasoline to help the situation. Well, fine enough but how are we going to get the potholes fixed, and how are we going to ever get any more improved roads and infastructure ?
Bush has already pulled money for 4 laneing hwy 43 to waste on his little "war" in Iraq.
I have read several post by you railing about the environmentalist stopping the building of refinerys , but I don't believe you have ever given credible proof of such. I consider myself to be an environmentalist, and I have no objection to building a refinery which is environmentally safe. I don't , however, support a refinery like Bush did in Texas which turned East Texas into the most polluted area in the country. Would you like to have a refinery in your back yard which spewed toxic waste to the point that the Shoals became known as "cancer alley" ? Well, maybe you would, but I would not and that would not be a good thing.

We should STOP price supports for gasoline in Iraq effective 5 years ago ! We have allready pissed away billions on that country, and if Bush and McCain have their way, this is only the beginning.
Our country should put into affect a program like unto the Manhattan Project to free us from the addiction to oil. I believe this is in our self interest for the security of our country. Failure to overcome oil dependency will bring about the collapse of our country, most of Western Civilization and bring on wars for food, water and energy. We don't need more holes in th e ground, or refineries, we need to stop burning gasoline, and diesel refined from oil, especilly foreign oil.
The current and future price of gas is affecting me, and I don't like it ! , but I just heard on TV this morning that sales of hybrid cars has jumped to 30% of the market. A step in the right direction, but just a baby step. Maybe the bright spot in all this will be that at some point the price of gasoline will get so expensive, that the population of our country will find alternative ways to get around.
The problem with gas taxes is that it is a percentage, not a fixed price per gallon. The more gas goes up the higher the collection of tax on the gallon at the pump. There is no reason for the government to step in. Bush has absoultely no control over the price of a gallon of gasoline, and neither will the next president. If you are voting for the next president and thinking that heor she is going to save you money at the pump, you are sadly informed.
Bosses at Scotland's only crude oil refinery have started a shutdown after claiming an impending strike will compromise safety.

Ineos said the Grangemouth refinery could shut for "at least a month", and warned of major fuel shortages.

"Fuel shortages are likely to begin in Scotland as early as Friday 25 April and the whole of Scotland could be without fuel for at least a month.

Actually you are only partially correct. A president does not have direct control over gas prices, true, but the policies of an administration does have affect.
For example, an admin can give tax credits on only the largest most gas guzzling suv's, which would encourage more gasoline to be used. I must admit only an idiot would do such a dumb thing, but that was one of the first things Bush did.
An administration (along with congress) can invade a country for no legitimate reason, and finance the entire thing by borrowing money from China running the national debt up the the highest level it has ever been. This record debt causes our dollar to loose value in relationship to other countries currency (like the Euro), meaning commodities purchased on the foreign market such as OIL cost more dollars. I realize only an idiot would consider doing such a thing to his native country, but wait ....
A congress can refuse to increase CAFE standards to include the most popular vehicles being sold, causing more and more demand in the gasoline market for few and fewer miles driven. Such a foolish thing you would think would never be done, but the Republican Congress in the 90's did exactly that.
A president can insist that the illegal occupation of a country in the part of the world where the MOST OIL lies, using 1/2 million barrels of oil per day, while insurance companies are charging enormous premiums on shipping companies who export oil from that region. True, only an arrogant stubborn idiot would do such a thing, especilly when most of the people of his own country oppose that occupation, but then an arrogant stubborn idiot may not give a damm about his own country and may do just such a thing.
Only a simpleton for a leader would take tax dollars (actually borrowed dollars from China) and give price support for a country he invaded which has the second largest known oil deposits in the world, so they can have gasoline at cheap prices (bless their invaded hearts) allowing them to burn more gasoline taking that much off the world market.
How stupid would a country's leader have to be that after being attacked, he advises everybody to "sacrifice" for the war effort by going on a shopping spree, and travel , and then virtually stop perusing the perp of that attack so he could start his own little war against the judgement of most of the rest of the civilized world?

Yes, the policies of an administration can and do make a difference. I hope what I have said here help you to see that, but if not, well , what can I say.
Premium has been over $4.00/gallon at many places here in Los Angeles for over a week. Even at Costco, which is the cheapest place around, it's $3.90 for premium. The last time we filled up my hubby's X5, the bill was over $80. I can easily see the price going above $4.50/gallon during the summer months when the price of gas ALWAYS goes up for some unexplained reason. I think it's because the gas companies want to cash in on all those car driving vacationers, yet they assure us that isn't the case! Yeah, like I'd believe anything that came out of their mouths. Lying b@stards all!!!
Check this out and see what you think.

What if I told you that 10 months before 9/11, Saddam Hussein did something very big, and pissed off the US Administration?
Shane March 13th, 2008

In November of 2000, Hussein switched to selling oil in Euros, when normally all OPEC nations sell their oil in US Dollars. Why?

As Ron Paul explains the US added a secret agreement to the overall OPEC Agreement where OPEC nations promised to sell oil in US dollars, and no other currency. This effectively backs the US dollar in oil, and all countries need US dollars in their reserves. This article explains why.

This is why some people call our currency The Petrodollar.

When Hussein started selling oil in Euros, it attacked the dollar’s dominance as the world currency. And of course, two other countries tried, or are trying, to follow suit. Venezuela tried in 2001, and within a year Chavez was almost removed in a military coup - in the Ron Paul speech I linked to above, he states it is widely rumored that our CIA was involved in that coup.

And now Iran is starting its own oil bourse (exchange).

Notice a trend here?

Luckily for Bush, 9/11 happened not long after Hussein started selling oil in Euros, otherwise we would not be in Iraq. Interestingly, all Iraqi reserves were quickly converted back to US dollars once we took over, and oil was once again sold in US dollars. Boy were we lucky we had an excuse to get our military into the Middle East. Whew.

I found out that I can get an engine management program for my honda that will allow me to retro-grade my car to use E85. E85 is higher octane than anything available at the commercial pump. several friends of mine have converted their track cars to E85 for the octane benefits, and the fact that its cheaper than race fuel. I know auto racing isn't "politically correct", but its a hobby that lots of folks enjoy. if we are gonna do it, we have the option of being as environmentally responsible as possible.

Please remember that Al Gore wanted to slap an additional 50 cent per gallon tax on gasoline. I'm pretty sure I can live without any democrat wanting to stick his or her hand deeper into my pocket.

I am amazed that you think it is ok for the price of gasoline to go sky high partly because of the policies of the current administration, and all that money go to the oil companies, but you would resent a relitavely small tax to which would go to finding our way out of this mess.
Your logic (or lack therof) just amazes me !
Man, how liberals think is just amazing. Things were going great until the Democrats took over.

In just one year . Remember the election in 2006?
A little over one year ago:

1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratically controlled Congress
in 2006 we have seen:

1) Consumer confidence plummet;
2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a
gallon;
3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);
4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in
equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);

5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2
trillion dollars;
6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

America voted for "change" in 2006, and we got it!

Remember it's Congress that makes the law, not the
President. He has to work with what's handed to him.
