If you take the taxes off, England gas tax is .81 per gallon compared to the US at .47 per gallon including federal and state taxes. Average US per gallon is now around $4.31 per gallon, compared to UK at $8.79 per gallon.

minus taxes = $1.68 per gallon

US
$4.31 per gallon
$2.02 for taxes
minus taxes = $2.29 per gallon

Not sue where you get these figures but taxes are not $2.02 for US gasoline. The futures markets sets the price of gasoline and as of today it was $3.50 per gallon with about $.35 cents in taxes per gallon. Any chance you want to live in the UK? Not me.

UK is not only less dependant on foreign oil, than the US. When you drill offshore, more is available.
