Locally, gas prices ROSE an average of $0.04 overnight. Coincidence?

'The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.'

'When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.'

'And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms.'

'An elective despotism was not the government we fought for.' - Thomas Jefferson

If that idiot president would do something worth a crap like regulating gas prices, he might not be so disliked.

Actually, that idiot president Nixon tried doing so and it led to the gas shortages, long lines, and buying gasoline on whether your tag was an odd or even number. Been there, done that, didn't work.
If we had kept the Jimmy Carter plan in place to conserve gasoline , and that idiot president Ronald Reagan hadn't cancelled Carter's energy initiative, possibly we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place, and wouldn't be sending our money to Arab states who use it to fight our military.

Carter's program was working, CAFE standards for cars, 55MPH speed limit (I hated it) , and the beginning of solar water heaters beginning to be installed (up north a lot of oil is used for heat). Reagan dismantled all that, but it took a while for the chickens to come home to roost.
People started buying trucks instead of cars , trucks were exempt from the CAFE standards, and used a lot more gas.Prices were also stable, and very inexpensive during Clinton's admin, but the continuing upward use of oil eventually had to have an effect. Now we pay the fiddler.

The 1980s oil glut caused by the slowed economic activity in industrial countries due to the 70s oil crises. OPEC attempted to raise the price by cutting back on production to 1969 levels but production was matched by non OPEC countries. Keep in mind that in the early 80s we only imported 28% of our oil then, down from 46% in 1977.

It should be noted too that Jimmy Carter signed the order to remove market controls from oil in April 79. The difference is his order was to do it by October 81. Ronald Reagan just made it immediate (January 81)
