This is correct. Auburn coaches have won it the most (3), with Boise St. (Petersen x 2) being the only other multi-time winner. Alabama has won it once (Stallings).

Man, someone stole my Paxil...musta been a plot by the "Aubbies". Wink

HAHAHAHA!!! You sound like Johnny Cochran when he was defendin OJ. lol... that's a good one.

Stating irony isn't disparaging anything.

Are you disagreeing that this is indeed ironic, or just foolin with us??? lol

No. Just pointing out that both "Bammers" and "Aubbies" could get their feathers ruffled by just about any post...if they try hard enough. Wink
Chizik had a perfect storm fall right into his lap. Heavy senior laden team with a once on a lifetime rented mule, I mean player, and a favorable schedule. I could have looked like a genious coaching that team. Next season will be the one to gauge the ability of Chiznik's coaching abilities. Over 8 wins and I will admit he's a dang good coach.

I don't get it...explain it to me.

This is ironic: Texas...the next Notre Dame

Heisman was a coach at Auburn.

Unless you consider the level to which Bryant has been deified by his followers. . .
Something I heard once (Not by an Auburn fan): "Never in history have so many people lived off a dead bear longer than Alabama fans."

Let's see how many responses this gets.
Bryant was a man's man, when it was not politically incorrect to smoke and drink in public. He told it like it was, and was a great coach. I did not grow up an Alabama fan, like I said I attended another school, not in the SEC conference, but I always admired the Alabama football program for what they accomplished and how they exemplified what the SEC was supposed to be, a rough and tough football conference that got down and dirty in the trenches. I loved watching it on Saturday with my grandpa, back when Keith Jackson used to call the games....loved that guy's voice...Whoaaaa Nelly!!!
Bryant was sort of like John Wayne as far as I was concerned. He mumbled when talked and pretty much just said whatever he thought.
on the other hand Pat Dye, for some reason just rubbed me the wrong way. When I hear him now on the radio, he sounds drunk and senile.
I know Bryant probably broke some rules, if not he certainly pushed them to the brink, but he was the face of college football in the 60's and 70's.

Actually it is very much more ironic.

Auburn is not nearly as tied to Heisman as their coach as Bama is to Bear Bryant. 90% of the success that Bama is remembered for as a traditional power came under Bear Bryant. Also, I doubt John Heisman was ever quoted as a "barner" calling The University of Alabama, UAT or Tuscaloser. Bryant gave all bammers justification in the idiotic "cow college" stuff you hear all the time. These are very different... When Bama does a special edition uniform, they put houndstooth stitching in because of a hat this guy wore. Fans wear Bama hats designed with houndstooth, fly flags about it, get tatooes of him. No, Heisman's legacy at Auburn is no where near that of the Bear's at Bama.

Would you say the same about Coach Saban at Bama? In '08 and '09 when he went a combined 26-2, it was with by far mostly leftovers from the Shula era. He won the BCS with a perfect storm of high level seniors playing on that defense and offensive line.

Once again, all that stuff can cut both ways. Because it's cyclical in modern day college football, there will be rebuilding years. Sure Auburn loses 24 seniors and 3 jrs from this year's team so it is very much likely that the W's will drop. But then you must look at next year's roster where there will only be 7 seniors. Like I said earlier, '12 and '13 Auburn will likely be a force no one wants to reckon with. Measure Chizik as the greatest ever because of this one season would be foolish, just as it would be foolish do discount him as a one hit wonder because of what may happen next year.

Bama was almost the consensus pre-season #1 and lost 3 games in which they were favored to win. Do you now think Saban isn't a great coach?

I actually don't like to hear Dye talk now either. lol

As for Bryant, there is no doubt he was a great coach. He always had the talent on his teams, and many more years than not, he got them close to or to their potential. He is the reason Bama is viewed the way they are, as a traditional power in the nation. Auburn fans love to rib the Bama fans about their love of the Bear, but if we would've had a coach with that type of success, we'd do the same thing. lol

In state, he changed the landscape, and it took Auburn a long time to even things back out. Auburn led the Iron Bowl series before him, and now after him, but to see that the series is at 40-34-1 in favor of Bama, that shows you the dominance he had over Auburn. And most of the time, when Bama beat Auburn they won championships. Besides the barbs we like to stick out at Bama fans, really nothing bad we can say about him. Dye was the coach that turned Auburn around, and he learned everything he new from the Bear.
