My thoughts exactly.

I agree with what joeycuda said above: I really appreciated his keen insight into language, grammar, and usage. Aside from his comedic work, his ponderings on cultural theory reflected the mind of a great thinker and observer.

I always thought comedy was more of a venue for him, a means to an end, rather than the goal itself.

I hope the moderators will consider the following link as acceptable in a thread dedicated to George Carlin. The language used in the video is rated PG13.

Here is a YouTube video of one of his skits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL2d6s2CJEc.

I remember being so very mad at George for a very long time after he stated his beliefs on the "BS" of religion. I literally could not listen to him without a little revulsion. I was so disappointed that one I had respected and laughed with for so long admitted so a strong distaste for religion.

I'm sorry. RIP George.

I am sure he will let you know when you get there.

Casting those stones again, Better Tnan No One? Your arms must be really tired.
Bye George, enjoy the rest.

Wow, that was tasteless.

Really, Jam. The insane cruelty of Christians is one of the many, many reasons I started questioning the whole thing long ago.

I can almost hear the cackling and howls of laughter of the Christians as they cheer Mr. Carlin on his way to be tortured for eternity by the Great Boogyman who liveth in the ground. The mere thought is cruel and tasteless. I sometimes wish there was a hell so Christians would have to answer for those kinds of inhuman remarks.

The irony is that BetternU thinks he is a moral person for having these thoughts.
George's comedy became a little different...perhaps more understated...after his wife died. His outlook on life was ironic, rather than sad, which is why I loved listening to his routines. His politics aggravated me more than a little, but he was straight forward and honest.

And for my "fellow" Christians who are howling in amusement at the thought of GC roasting...get over yourselves. First, I'm pretty sure God doesn't need your help. Second, unless you were close friends with GC, you can't know what his beliefs were. Fortunately, none of us gets a vote on which escalator to put someone when they die.

I swear, small wonder I often enjoy the company of atheists more than some of the more vocal christians.

Me too. Somehow, I think that GOD would smile on ol' George and let him in. He would certainly have a role in heaven in keeping honest the righteous twits that managed to get in.

TOTALLY WRONG, DEAD WRONG, and COMPLETELY and WILDLY WRONGGG! zippedee..

Carlin has stated his blasphemous beliefs often and publicly. I have heard him call the Bible a work of "science fiction." In case you have somehow missed the opportunity to learn something of the kind of blasphemous drivel that was barfed out by this trash-mouthed atheistic scumbag, you can check this out:

Yeah, and Dave Chappelle did a comedy bit about being a blind white racist...i don't think that was truth.

Why in the world would you state he had a "sad" outlook on life?

(PS: Welcome back! Wink )

Thanks. Perhaps I should have said...sad to me. Smiler

From the article:

His comedic sensibility revolved around a central theme: humanity is a cursed, doomed species.

"I don't have any beliefs or allegiances. I don't believe in this country, I don't believe in religion, or a god, and I don't believe in all these man-made institutional ideas," he told Reuters in a 2001 interview.

Carlin told Playboy in 2005 that he looked forward to an afterlife where he could watch the decline of civilization on a "heavenly CNN."

"The world is a big theater-in-the round as far as I'm concerned, and I'd love to watch it spin itself into oblivion," he said. "Tune in and watch the human adventure."

That's pretty pessimistic, don't you think?
A local radio station has something they call the 5 O'Clock Funnies during the evening rush hour where they play 5 minute clips of various comedy routines. Last night on the way home, they played some classic Carlin for their listeners. It was an excerpt from George's routine about air travel, highlighting the pre-flight safety lecture. Observational comedy at its best - still funny after all these years!!!

God needs no human advisors. He is fully competent to recognize and DEAL WITH blasphemy and filth, both of which were served up in more than excessive amounts by the egregiously irreverent and potty-mouthed George Carlin.
I love how some of the so-called christians are arguing with the so called-atheist about where George will spend eternity. I even see some christians sticking up for ol' George when he clearly wasn't a christian. Maybe all the atheist posters on here should learn some comedy and tell some jokes on here and it'll get you a free ride to heaven and more acceptance by the christians on here who seem to bash you every other chance they get. This is what i see as being a selective and not a typical conservative christian. I'm not drawing my guns on any certain group or person, i just get tired of seeing people who love to flame each other on a daily basis on these boards. I'm sure i'll get some flaming myself, but it doesn't bother me. I'm past the name-calling and spitting slander thru my keyboard at people who dont use real names or faces on a forum board.
