actor-comedian George "Goober" Lindsey died early today at age 76.

A report on the website of the NBC affiliate station says sources its Channel 4 News staff he died after an extended illness.

Born in 1935 in Fairfield, Ala., and raised in Jasper, Lindsey was a featured actor on The Andy Griffith Show and Hee Haw star. Burial will be in Jasper, the station reports, but funeral arrangements are incomplete.

It says he will be buried in Jasper. I can only imagine that his funeral will be a very crowded event.
