Again, not to be unexpected, but THC is not a prescribed drug and its presence carries a little more weight in the matter.
Martin did no deserve to die, but neither of these inidividuals are totally free from blame. As much as people want to blame Zimmerman for "getting out of the car" there is just as much blame for Martin. He could have handled the situation better himself. Zimmerman was tasked with helping protect a neighborhood where numerous break-ins had occurred. Martin was a new face in the neighborhood, but was rightly there just the same. A little communication and civility on both parts would have gone a long way. If Zimmerman approached Martin and asked him his intentions, all Martin had to do was answer him politely and identify himself. It appears however that both reacted irrationally.
In any case, it is tragic. A young man lost his life, and another has ruined his. Sadly this happens much to often in this country because people have forgotten how to be civil to one another.

well put!
a little bit of civility ... i think we're losing that part of society. looking at what we know so far... i'd say this simple statement may or may not have changed the outcome... "excuse me, i'm on neighborhood watch... the neighborhood has had several breakins... do you live around here?"
the next deciding factor would be how this young man handled that situation.. did he start with the attitude of "you're racial profiling me"... or would he have been receptive of a well worded question?
we'll never know the answers. anyway, two lives ruined... not good. period.
