two things bluesmann. I hope that when you said check your browser you meant check it to be sure the firewall, spyware blocker and virus scan are turned on, up to date and working.
Second thing. I WOULD NOT ASSUME THAT THE PHONES AT NEONJOINT OR THEIR SUGGESTED SERVICE ARE NOT BEING MONITORED. The website itself is enough to get a wire tap warrent, and more than enought to get a wiretap installed without a warrent.
I've never thought to even look that kind of thing up, but I'm not going to it, for the mere fact that it might have malware on there.

This is one reason that all parents should be monitoring what their children/teens do online. I know it might seem a bit over-protective to some people, but there are a lot of psycho's out there that are just waiting to find someone to prey on. Ya gotta be careful.

When I was younger, the computer has (and still is) in the family room where everything on the screen could be seen by everyone in the room. So, essentially, I was monitored, and I'm pretty sure that it helped me from falling into sites that I wasn't supposed to be on.

My son, (although only 2 now) when he gets older will not have a computer linked to the internet in his room. He may have one that he can do homework on and whatnot, but the only internet computer will be in the family/living room area so that I can monitor what he is doing. Far too many kids/teens these days become victims for predators or web harrassment.

This is essentially why I volunteer as an admin at a g/pg rated family friendly website. We help keep our site completely clean and safe for all ages. In that we offer a safe haven of sorts, for interesting/fun discussions for all ages.

You would not believe how many predators we have reported to authorities through out the years, I've been an admin, that try to join to prey on children or young adults. No where is completely safe, but with parents monitoring, and a if websites do their job and monitor too, kids would be a bit safer online. Most sites though, shrug off their responsibility or do not monitor as well as they really should be, which is a shame.

As for this site, I think stuff like that shouldn't be online at all, but seeing as it's the www, it's almost impossible to police. They are trying to come up with better solutions as to handle web crimes, and I hope that one day something they come up with will work. Smiler

Blues, I agree with you. The reason parent's aren't aware, is because a lot of them don't think that when they tell their child/teen not to go on certain sites, that they aren't going to. In actuality, the only way to know for sure is to watch them while they play online.

Setting up parental controls is good too, and also doing a suprise check of the history on the computer is also a good way to see what exactly your kid/teen might look at without your knowledge. If I'm not mistaken, there is also a program that you can install on your computer that actually somehow records what your children look at while they are online, if for some reason you can't monitor them all the time.

It boils down to, at least on the net, a Parent's responsibility first. A parent must be vigilant in telling their kids/teens about not sharing much if any personal information online. They should also tell them what to do if someone does IM/contact them and makes inappropriate advances towards them, especially if that person is notified of the child being underage. There are several things that a parent should do to safegaurd.

And even then it's still not enough, because you are right there are perverts everywhere. I totally agree with you about locking anyone up like that, that is proven guilty, for the rest of their sentence. If it is against children, then I say for the rest of their lives. Those types of people do not change, and nobody can convince me that they ever would be rehabilitated.

Unless of course they are put on a desert island with like minded perverted individuals. I'm sure if that were to ever happen, that one or two of them would definitely know what it feels like, after awhile, to be a victim.

Unfortunately, the above will not ever happen, but it would be nice way to get them away.

Really, though it boils down to parents responsibilities to watch over their kids, and make sure their kids are aware of the dangers. I hope as the information gets out more and more, that parents do start paying more attention to what their kids could get into.
