Gingrich: Palin Will Not Be the Future GOP Leader.

"She's not going to be the de facto leader."

If there's a push in some conservative circles to consider Sarah Palin the future of the GOP, and I believe there is, some high-profile Republicans aren't exactly on board. Last week, members of the Republican Governors Association were less than pleased with a Palin-centered focus, and yesterday, Newt Gingrich resisted the idea of Palin leadership.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.

...Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the party's leader, as some have predicted.

"I think that she is going to be a significant player," said Gingrich during an interview on CBS's "Face the Nation". "But she's going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She's not going to be the de facto leader."

Since the defeat of the GOP ticket, Palin has pursued an aggressive media strategy, scheduling a full slate of interviews to keep her face on television.... But Gingrich on Sunday sought to divert some media attention away from Palin and to other governors such as Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) and Utah Gov. John Huntsman (R).

"She's going to be a much bigger story in the short run," said Gingrich, explaining Palin's higher media profile compared to other GOP governors. "But, I think, as she goes back to being governor and as she works in Alaska, you're going to see a group of governors emerge, not just Sarah Palin."

Palin may want to the ostensible leader of the party, but those with similar ambitions aren't going to just hand her the reins.

Gingrich is a very bright fellow and he knows mediocrity when he sees it. He looked for it in Palin and had a difficult time finding even that commodity. What he found in Palin was an atmospherically-filled cranium (airhead for those who can't handle "big words"), and having made that finding, he came away with both the hope and the expectation that Palin, notwithstanding her head start, would recede into the pack.

I have not noticed the Dems even mentioning her. It seems to me it is the Republicans who are throwing her under the bus.

Good grief! Palin is exposing HERSELF to the max, now that she is out from under control of the McCain campaign organization, which wisely restricted--or tried to restrict--her activities in order to minimize inane utterances that confirm her airheadedness and incompetence for service as Vice President, ket alone President. Now she freely blabs all over the place, hoping to coax attention from the meida. Do you think the woman has some kind of right to expect that ALL of the resulting coverage will be favorable, especially given the dingbat way she comports herself!!??

Lady snake,

You've not read the left's screeds, have you? They've become unhinged about the subject.

Suggest you read Camille Paglia's defense of Governor Palin.

Surely you must be aware of the rights lovely remarks about Palin. Actually I hope she is the nominee next go round. Won't happen. Paglia? Oh please. She is not one of my favorite lesbians.

And the Devil can easily quote scripture. In fact, he quoted it to Christ himself.

Of course. I am very fond of Ellen, Wanda Sykes, Suzie Ormond, Martina, Rita Mae Brown, Patsy Kelly (even though she is dead), Jane Addams (my favorite dead one), Melissa Etheride, kd lang, Vita Sackville-West (another dead one), among others. Paglia has a glimmer of reality once in a while and I have read all her books, but I usually find her great opinion of herself hyper-active and inflated. Shes, O.K.

Yet they did a better job than Bush. Leaving office with 68% approval (Clinton) and leaving office with 24% (bush), sort of says it all.

No actually it don't say s***.Read your history books.Abraham Lincoln, now considered one of the great presidents, was hated while he was president in the North and South both. There is no telling what his approval ratings would have been if measured.I'm not comparing Bush to Lincoln.I don't agree with Bush on everything.I'm just pointing out that popularity isn't always the best gauge of success. We all remember that "nerd" in high school that nobody liked that 10 years later has a beautiful wife,Huge house, nice car,and 500,000 buck a year job.All I'm saying is time will tell the truth.

I confidently that within 10 years, the lamentable G.W. Bush will be firmly and deservedly ensconced as one of the 2 or 3 worst U.S. Presidents of all time. No other President in modern times has screwed up so badly and in so many ways as has this under-performing, easily-manipulated FUMBLETON!
