Our president was in Alabama this morning. All of you detractors who complained because he wasn't invited to the wedding would have complained now if he had gone. Instead, he was in this country, where he belongs. He came to see the wreckage, offer comfort, and to pledge his help. Later today he will be in Florida for the shuttle blast off.

Your point is..?

He did what presidents have always done in times of natural disasters of this scope. He went to one of the hardest hit areas to show support to ALL. With all of the other pressing troubles this country is having, would you rather see him go to every town affected, or would you rather see him do his job?

No shuttle blast-off today; it has been postponed.

Did you see Richard Shelby with the President, Shelby the President's arch-critic?  I wonder if Shelby's fat-cat developer buddies who built the condos for the well-off near the University will be pitching in with any assistance for the tornado victims.  They got lots of assistance from the federal government when Shelby got Tuscaloosa County declarded a part of the Hurricane Katrina impact area.  Time for them to pitch in and help the not-so-wealthy!  Don't hold your breath.

Put me down for approving.  I'm glad that President Obama came, given the damage and his position it was the right thing to do.  It's  a part of his job and I feel he came on his own accord because he cared.  Given Alabama was solidly against him in the last election and most likely in the next if he had played politics then he would have avoided the state and visited Georgia instead but kudos for doing the right thing.

I have often derided this forum but it was usually in jest.

After witnessing the response on this thread by both Democrats, Republicans, Independents and even Tea Partiers I can only share how proud I am of the TD politics forum and these responses and to be included as a member.

There is a very different thread posted on TNF by a poster from there who often posts here and his thread was sickening in it's warped politicism of the president's visit, especially given he was touring Tuscaloosa which was one of the hardest hit areas in the state.

At last reading, it seems not one poster at TNF agreed with this idiots reply to the presidents visit, but I am grateful to O No! for posting this and that we have folks here at the TD political forum who are not making light of this tragedy.

Kudos to All and let's keep helping the victims of the damage and keep praying.

I have to agree Rocky. To all of it. Some of the stories on the TNF are heart breaking, some are horrifying, and some are disgusting. The thread about the leader descending from the skies was just wrong. We have a right to be proud of our members, and of this forum. I believe the administrators of Times Daily forum have done a wonderful job of helping us to adjust to the new format, and an even better job of serving our community. I am proud to be a member. I am in good company.

He spent millions coming to Tuscaloosa for a photo-op, interfering with cleanup and co-opting much needed law enforcement. Is this what we needed? Wouldn't a neat telepromted statement from DC have sufficed? Wouldn't the millions spent on the trip be better spent on disaster relief?

If it hadn't been for a family outing to the cancelled space shuttle launch, he probably wouldn't have come down here anyway.

The job of being President means no matter what one does one will get criticism. As to whether Obama was correct to go to Tuscaloosa so soon after the storm, it depends on ones view point. For some it matters more that we get the President as quickly as possible as a symbol of national sympathy for a morale boost. For others, it is more important that the people walking with the president and those pulled out of the recovery effort for security were at work in the recovery.  Obama choose the morale boost option this time while Bush choose to not hinder recovery efforts because of his presence after Katrina.  Both decisions are right but both decisions are wrong at the same time.
