The Pudgy Pundit was on a tear this morning, castigating Al Franklin as a "despicable" person, and citing, in particular, Franken's refusal to grant extra speaking time to Senator Lieberman during recent Senate debate. John McCain had objected to Franken's action, righteously proclaiming, "I’ve been around here 20-some years. First time I’ve ever seen a member denied an extra minute or two to finish his remarks. … I just haven’t seen it before myself."

This controversy several days ago was all over the media and during the discussions online, in print, and on television and radio, it was repeatedly pointed out that McCain had himself done exactly the same thing during the very important debate over the Iraq War authorizaton. This LINK thoroughly documents McCain's behavior at that time.

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/...n-hypocrisy-franken/

Beck undoubtedly knew this side of the story, to wit, that McCain had done exactly the same thing he accused Franken of doing and that not only had McCain "seen that before," contrary to his claim ("I just have't seen it before myself."), he DID IT HIMSELF, as a matter of record. But Beck made no mention whatsoever of McCain's well-known actions, treating the matter instead as some kind of unique, unprecedented action solely attributable to the "despicable" Franken.

This selective, propagandistic, deceitful, asymmetrical kind of punditry is nothing new to Glenn Beck, the latest darling of the dumbed-down set. Trouble is, his sheeple disciples seem so Foxed-up and so oblivious to reality, they actually have come to believe that Beck is a reliable source of information! Thus do Beck and his disreputable ilk continue to steepen and accelerate the continuing decline in the quality of public discourse!

Coincidentally, the Fox & Friends crew had also attacked Franken on the matter, calling him "uncivil," a "newbie," and "an angry clown."

Franken was showing his posterior.

His new found power was more than he could handle.

Dems are bailing faster than rats from the proverbial sinking ship. Sad to think all you will have left is idiots like Franken.

Beter, why do you care what Beck is saying? I don't care what Behar or Olberman or Maddow is saying.

He's entertaining. That's why he's on the air.

I care about what Beck is saying because he is indoctrinating a large audience of sheep-like followers, who will go to the polls brainwashed with the ultra-rightist misinformation he spouts daily. An informed American can make good choices at the polls and elsewhere. A misinformed American is apt to make bad choices. Beck, the quintessential fount of misinformation, is a powerful encouragement of the latter course. He is a festering barnacle on the ship of state, a termite in the timbers of the republic.

Seems like Beck, Oriley, and others garner about 5 times more news watchers than any of the liberals. Just out of curiosity where are all these "informed" liberals getting their news? From a guy named Jim at the coffee shop?

You might not know it, Cossack wannabe, but there is a vast amount of information in print, on-line, and in the electronic media. Informed Americans get information from a multiplicity of sources. Then they use their God-given minds to sort carefully through it, analyze pros and cons, and do their best to form honest opinions and conclusions. They do not hang their faith on the nutterances that are persistently and predictably the product of disordered persons such as Glenn Beck.

betern nuttin,

Lawrence Black posted on the Franken fiaco earlier, followed the leftist line and embarassed himself. For the sake of accuracy, one more time.

Al Franken, as chair, cut off Lieberman after a 10 minute speech.

In the situation where McCain objected, Byrd had spoken for an hour, then asked for more time. The chair, not McCain, asked if there were any objections. McCain objected from the floor. Byrd keep speaking or should I say meandering on, despite the objection.

The chair asked if there were objections and McCain responded from the floor. Franken, as the Chair, denied the request for time directly and did not ask if there were objections.

Please review parliamentary procedures and the situation before demonstrating a lack of information on the subject at hand. Knowledge first, then speak.

I hear you BitterNut.....look at how the American public made an azz of themselves by putting Obama in the WH last year. There is no doubt, the uninformed will make the wrong choice everytime.....

Let me get this straight. What you are saying is anyone who is a conservative is indoctrinated, brainwashed, and misinformed. But a liberal is informed and makes all the right decisions? I do agree with you on one thing though, the uninformed will make wrong choices. Anytime a choice is made because of the color of ones skin or because he is different than the one before him that would be a bad choice.

You seem not tohave paid particular attention to what McCain actually said, which was, "I’ve been around here 20-some years. First time I’ve ever seen a member denied an extra minute or two to finish his remarks. … I just haven’t seen it before myself."

As I pointed out, not only had McCain seen a member denied additional time, but he himself had been instrumental in that denial. I spoke from knowledge on this subject and I addressed the specific claim that McCain made, which was proven false.

NO. What I am saying is that Beck has a large number of followers who hang on his every word and who do not bother to consult other sources of information to obtain a complete and balanced perspective on issues. I am personally acquainted with a fair number of such willing dupes. Those who form their opinions and conclusions in that manner are forming biased and indefensible conclusions. It is possible for either liberals or conservatives to apply that kind of selective sourcing and bias, and it is regrettable when that happens on either side of the political spectrum. Beck just happens to be an especially dangerous Mother Lode of misinformation because so many of those who follow him treat the garbage he speaks as though it were gospel.

I watched McCain's speech on youtube. I know what he said. Its the parliamentary procedures that Al Franken violated that McCain objected to, not simply the denial of time.

OK, you hate his pudgy being. But, what has he told that was a lie? What did he say that he didn't have proof for? Were those tapes of people calling themselves commies, just our imagination? Does he hypnotize all of us?

Now go on to something you know all about. Sarah Palin. You haven't gone on a tear about her, in some time.

Has it "went" to the same hell that your English usage has "went" to??!!

And, by the way, Franken kicked Fox News butt big-time:

"In 2003, after winning an injunction by Fox News to stop its publication, Franken put out another political satire, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right which included a cover photo of Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly. Aside from openly mocking O'Reilly, a chapter in the book accused the commentator of lying. In August 2003, Fox News sued Franken, claiming infringement of its registered trademark phrase "Fair and Balanced." A federal judge found the lawsuit to be "wholly without merit."

"Al Franken attended Harvard College and graduated cum laude in 1973 with a B.A. in political science."

Franken has conducted several overseas tours to both Iraq and Afghanistan, in addition to participating in numerous celebrity handshake tours at military hospitals to visit wounded soldiers. On March 25, 2009, Franken was presented with the USO's Merit Award for his 10 years of service to the organization through visiting injured and deployed servicemembers."
