So why would born-again Protestants, Catholics and those with no religious affiliation have a smaller hippocampus?
You title doesn't wash since the article said those with no religious affiliation also have a smaller hippocampus. AND that is not the brain.
I'm a former Episcopalian, but I know "born again" means baptized, not some paranormal experience. I'd say the researchers didn't do a very good job in defining terms. Maybe they meant Pentecostal?

Yes, the definitions are a little indeterminate. I take "no religious affiliation" to mean "just don't care." Atheists don't really fit into that category. Atheism is an intellectual counterargument to theistic claims. We care and care deeply and so do you.
Other studies seem to add credence to my post by showing that people with a religious affiliation, including atheists (and, no, they do not mean atheism is a "religion) are happier than those who just don't care one way or another. The same study showed that atheists are actually happier than their happy religious counterparts.
"The study suggests that those who are absolutely sure, one way or the other, about the existence of God are most likely to be satisfied with their lives and emotionally stable. It’s the spiritual seekers who tend to be unstable, according to the report"

That is your interpretation, anyone else would take it to mean atheist.
It actually said stress was the main factor, so if you are happy, religious or not, you have a bigger hippocampus.
If stress is a factor, I have an enlarged Elephocampus.

The Church of Christ teach that born again means baptized.

Wiki says all but Lutherans and Episcopalians believe born again means to be baptized.
Obviously, some ideas have more merit than others. I have a friend who worships in a make-up cult. He says the more eye-liner, the crazier the person... Hmmm, he could be right.
