Subsidizing food to make it cheaper for everyone - Billions

If taxpayer money is being used to subsidize food, then it's not really cheaper. People pay more, but their payments are broken into "retail" and "taxes".

When government steps out and lets competition do it's thing, prices drop on their own.

It's not the government's job to make sure you eat your veggies and exercise. It's your job. Those billions could be saved with a little concept called "personal responsibility".

your right, but it's obvious that people around here don't want, or know how to take care of themselves. Alabama is the 2nd fattest state, Mississippi is first. and then when you look at the health expenses associated with being fat and obese. i think the government looks at it like if they spend money to educate and inform, maybe people can save money in the future. have you been to walmart lately? i have, and everytime i go i always leave feeling better about myself. something clearly needs to be done, and i for one support the governments input when it comes to a healthy lifestyle
I for one think it's none of the governments business when it comes to my choice pertaining a healthy lifestyle. If the government wants to post guidelines that's fine. But don't tell me what I can or can't eat. Let me ask you a question thomas. You want the governments input on health lifestyle, do you want their input on your sexual lifestyle?

/sarcasm for those who didn't understand my post. Thought it was pretty obvious.

No, it wasn't. Sarcasm doesn't work well in a text based forum.

Besides, like ferrelj said, there are a lot of people here who actually believe the government should subsidize food, nationalize the banks, and control every aspect of one's life. I've read much crazier stuff here and the writers weren't being sarcastic.

Stick around and you'll see, there are some folks here with very strange ideas.

They are giving us input on our sexual lifestyle...they are screwing us everyday.

Well then you need to support a Constitutional amendment...because it not the role of the federal government or is it empowered to them by the Constitution.

That's how we have gotten into this crazy situation with the federal government. A hundred years ago some people supported the government getting invovled in our "healthy" choice of drinking alcohol or not. And agree with it or not...they did it Constitutionaly and amended the Constitution.

Since then it seems Congress/President have decided "thats too much trouble" and have passed unconstitutional laws and bureaucracies.

they can recommend all they want, doesn't mean i'll follow it. if people want to be fat and gross then that's their decision. i for one am not, and i care about my well being and i'm glad that myfoodpyramid.gov exists, because it is full of helpful information

Because lord knows we need the government looking out for us...

By the way that was sarcasm...and I got to say...no offense...but it's pretty sad to have that kind of reverence for the federal government.

Big Grin Like he couldn't find those food charts in a million other places on the internet. Big Grin There's no telling how many millions of taxpayer dollars were spent to tell us to don't eat a lot of sweets.
