The hospital won't be in my back yard, because I'm not selling my back yard, either.  I'll be perfectly happy living next door to it, so long as I'm in my own house.  They can't force me out, so unless they agree to move it on my terms they are out of luck.

My house itself is worth quite a bit more than the tax appraisal, if I'm not mistaken, but that doesn't mean it would sell for more than that in this market or in this part of town.

From the previous statement you made, my guess is that your property is not included in the 48 properties needed in order to construct the hospital. I have no known information about your property nor the provisions for it, but if it is on the periphery, and was needed only to accomodate the are, and you were going to be on the edge of it, then my guess is that your property is not considered in that number and they are not likely counting on your "yea" or "nay" in order to proceed.  Hopefully, the other 10 which are under negotiation will proceed, since I think it would be great for the area and especially for East Florence.

No, they've said the hospital can be built without it.  I'm one of the furthest out properties from Brandon that's on the blocks they want.  They don't have to have it to go ahead.  They do want it, however, and will continue to try to buy it from me probably even after the hospital is built.  I spoke to  their representatives again this morning. One of the refusers is out in the middle of the area, and I'm interested to see what will happen to them.    Maybe they'll build around it, or maybe they'll leave that block alone and try to build in the other direction.

I thought your property wasn't included in the 48 needed? You've whined all this time about them "not getting my house" but it's not included in what they need. You'll probably be one of those that will end up wishing yours had been one of them.

Unless they agree to move your home on your terms they are out of luck? Does that mean they have to buy the land you want it moved to or it's a no sell then either?

Wish I could  find a copy of those old comics.

Here's yer boy!

B.O. Plenty was a backwoods hillbilly who first appeared in the strip in 1945.  He discovered a fugitive Breathless Mahoney and permitted her to hide from the police for a small fee. Later, after being almost poisoned to death by Breathless, he choked Breathless and stole her ill-gotten fortune.  Later, he was found by Itchy and Mrs. Mahoney only to have his fortune stolen and be tied up and left to die in the city sewers.  He then reappeared inexplicably in 1946 as Diet Smith's handyman and managed to save the millionaire's life after he was shot by the traitorous Irma.  B.O. was rewarded Sunny Dell Acres to live on and in late 1946 he met and married Gravel Gertie.  The two had a daughter, Sparkle Plenty, in 1947.  They also adopted a daughter,  Susie Zonn a.k.a. Little Wingy in 1953.  B.O. frequently appeared in the strip over the years, being almost fatally wounded by T.V. Wiggles during a shootout in 1950, shooting a trespassing Mrs. Volts in 1948 and exposing the Perfume-Leggers in 1977.  B.O. continued to appear after Gould's retirement, opening the Land O' Plenty in 1984 and becoming involved in a variety of cases since.

Yes, my property is included in the ones they want to buy.  They've sent me letters and made me an offer.  There seems to be some confusion on the numbers, so let me lay it out as I understand it:

There are 60 properties they want to buy.  There are 48 property owners of those 60 properties.  Meaning, of course, that some of those owners own more than one property here.  38 of those 48 owners have signed contracts agreeing to sell their properties.  I am included in the remaining 10 who have not signed a contract.  The hospital has made the statement that since I am out on the fringe, they can go ahead without my property, but that they still want to try to buy it.  I have declined to sell.

Why should I agree to let the house be moved on anything other than my own terms?  What would be in it for me? Yes, they'd have to buy the land for me.  I have something they want, and if they want it bad enough they'll make it worth my while.  If they don't, then they won't.

As it is, I think I've decided I don't want the house moved.  I'm perfectly happy with it where it is.

I get that you don't want to sell, want to stand up to them, and you have, but......  When it becomes apparent that it's a)going to happen, b)you not selling won't stop it, then it's time to throw in the towel, realize you did what you could, and take the money.  Why?  Because..after the hospital is built, that will be near the equivalent of living next to a busy train track.

People in Madison, behind the new Target shopping center, are complaining to the city and getting some noise ordinance passed, as there's too much noise with the freight trucks.  Living next to a larger hospital will be ridiculous with the traffic 24/7, ambulances, police, people just walking around the area..  While the neighborhood might clean up around the new development, living right next to that will most likely be awful.  You could say "but.. I still have my house, I won".. but will you staying there really make up for all of the traffic, sound, lights.  It just won't be the neighborhood you were clinging to anymore.  Sure, the house will be the same, but in the end it's just a building and with the amount of change that will take place, it's won't be the same neighborhood at all anymore.

This has nothing to do with winning.  There is no battle being fought.  This is my house, I own it, and I am entitled to keep it.  Period.  As to the noise, traffic, etc.  I don't care.  I work a lot, I go to school a lot, I don't have a lot of time to spend quietly sitting around the house.  Noise doesn't bother me, I can sleep through anything.  I do hope they will put up a four way stop on the corner by my house to help control the traffic, though.

Sorry, there is a battle, & it is about winning. A battle is an encounter between opposing forces. You being one force, ECM being the other. You want to keep your home, they want your home. One of you will lose the battle, one will win.

I agree with joey that your neighborhood won't be the same. But if you want the traffic, noise, lights, sirens, constant flow of people, then you should stay in the center of it. I have a feeling that you want more, that if you hold out, you think you'll end up with much more than you would if you sold now.

Why should other people get 200% for their home, but you possibly get land, & someone to move your home? Just exactly how much land are you holding out for? Where do you want this land to be?

If you never stay at home, what difference does it make if it's the house you have now or another one? Evidently your house is used for nothing but a few hours of sleep each night anyway.

As far as a four way stop on the corner by your house, I don't think you would have a right to want/request anything.

I have a right to want whatever I want. I might want a pony, too. That doesn't mean I'm going to go ask for it.  I simply hope they put up another set of stop signs to keep traffic from getting dangerous right here.  That's not exactly an outlandish wish.  And I'm not holding out for more land or more money or anything.  I've already decided I don't want the house moved... or didn't I say that already?  Yes, I think I did.
