I'm having trouble understanding Mrs. McLeay’s opposition to this target range. The neighbors she refers to have been living in the area for less than 15 years. The rifle range has been there for 40+ years. My suggestion is if you don't want to live in a questionable area, don't move into it and then try to change it. The area police target practice here and with the area police turnover as often as it is I personally believe it is needed.

The club should try to work something out with the city of florence,They have a nice shooting range off gunwelford road the police from all around train there I have heard they have comptiton shooting out there.I would think chief singlton would like to have the money from the membership fee's to help with the maintenence and and up keep,This would help the city of florence out .

Florence PD has a club but it cost $50 for a very limited amount of time on the range and no key and very limited access. The members of the club in Sheffield built that with there time, talent and money and they each have a key to the range and it's facilities. and a say in what happens with in the club  The range has very good earthen berms for back stops and all firing is done towards the river so any rounds that were to get over the back stops will fall at gravity velocity into the river with no more damage than small hail falling from to sky.

The complainers need to go to a shooting event at the range or the range officers should have them out to see they're in no harm. Cities, contrary to Ian Sanford have ranges inside their limit even in California as restrictive as they are. Let somebody built anything there and see what happens when the city has to clean up the Garbage dump The soil covering is less than a foot deep in many places out there. The city can't maintain the streets or pay decent wages to those employees serving the city now. So the last thing they need to do is run-off several hundred people to make a few happy because of un-necessary fears, replace the fear with a little education. If you move in try to fit in, everyone before you did.....

Sadly this is typical as people move out into the country.  I grew up out in the country outside of Memphis and as the suburbs expanded and people moved out in the area the wanted to change it.  I am sure the gun club was there before most of the people who are complaining.  Do not want to live near the gun club, airport etc do not move close to there.

As o our area, I wish they would open the old pistol range on the TVA Res up for general use.

There used to be one there and it was shut down due to new neighbors complaining and converted to a Soccer field.  The one that I know that is still operating is MSSA and it backs up to my fathers farm in the county.
