Malzahn's offense is only as good as personnel.

Is that why he had a first time starter (senior) at Tulsa throw for 5,000+ yards?

or

Have Chris Todd (w/ a bum shoulder!) set passing records at Auburn?

If anything, Malzahn gets more out of a players than anyone, which is why him going to Vandy scared me more on the having to face him front then on the losing him front.

Spidey, if you have a national, top-5 QB, in state...you would at least like to be considered. Trooper ruined it, but anyway. As for Kiehl Frazier...he will be a good fit for AU since he runs Malzahn's O in high school. He probably does have a good chance at taking over b/c the other QBs on Au roster are not very good. I guarantee you that AU will sign another QB in next year's class. Most sign one every year b/c you never know what will happen.

As for the 2012 Qb from Hueytown, I doubt he would be afraid of competition. He is considering Bama and we signed the nation's #1 QB last year (Sims) and McCarron will still be there. What happened with AU was that Troop was telling the kid how great one of the programs (not Socioology lol)is at Au. The kid called him out on it b/c Au doesnt have that program.

I keep up with recruiting year round and hear some about AU from people in my company. Some schools sell themselves and others use negative recruitng tactics against others. Craig Sanders is a classic example. He was told by the Au staff that he would never see the field at Bama. Saban's response, "So your gonna let them tell you that your not good enough to play here!" I guess he did.

If that happened with Troop... whoopty doo!!! lol. Like I said, Troop is not the only recruiter to "say or do the wrong thing" with a high school kid. It happens every year, multiple times, at every school. If he signs with Auburn I'd be excited to have another kid joining the Auburn family. If he signs else where, wish him luck til if/when his new team plays Auburn. The reasons why don't concern me.

And you saying that about Auburn's recruiting tactics means nothing. Positive and negative recruiting is older than Bear Bryant, and will live longer than Joe Paterno. Once again, that's not a breaking story. As for Craig Sanders... whoever told you that was said probably didn't listen to the convo or know the context. Look at Sanders, then look at Bama's defensive ends. Sanders is not a 3-4 DE, and his skill set doesn't translate into a LB either. I don't doubt that was a focal point in his recruitment by Auburn, but to make it sound like they were telling him he's not good enough is ridiculous.

I think Sims transfers from Bama myself. He will be a RFreshman while McCarron is a RSophmore in 2011. That's 3 years holding a clipboard if he doesnt beat out McCarron this spring.(and if that happens then McCarron would split) Also, Bama is set to sign... is his name Ely???? something like that I think, who is supposed to be a top prospect as well. If Sims sees the writing on the wall that he won't be playing, he'll most likely transfer after the spring to make sure he gets to see the field. Just my opinion on that.

And as for Auburn's QB's, Trotter knows the O, runs and throws better than Todd for sure. The O definately would look different than with Cam if he chooses to go pro, but Auburn would still be a top 10 to 15 offense no matter who the QB is next year IF the O-line shapes up. Those 4 seniors leaving there will be a big replacement job. Green and Mosley will most likely be the tackles and both have starting experience so that's good. Blake Burgess is a walkon backup at center this year who the coaches like. If he puts on 10-15 more pounds look for him to take over there as a Rsoph. But that's my biggest concern for the '11 Tigers. Realistically I see a simialar season next year for Auburn as Bama had this year due to all the seniors leaving.
"Joining the AU Family?" ....Couple of thoughts always pop in my mind when I hear this.
1.) Charles Manson..wasn't his cult/group called the "Family."
2.) keep hearing their slogan AU Family, ALl IN...seriously sounds like incest.
3.) As an AU fan..how can you like this slogan? If Bama started this crap I wouldn't like it.

My info on Craig Sanders came from Saban himself. Sanders is a perfect fit in Bama's D for a "Jack" LB/DE. That is what he was recruited to be. JACKs play outside LB and usually rush some from DE in certain situations.

Your right...Sims and/or McCarron could possibly transfer. It is something Bama fans have gotten used to since Saban has been here. Doesn't matter anyway...best player plays...and recruits keep coming that are just as good.

I think your spot on about AU and their O. Line play is more important than people think. Offense will be top-15 no matter what.

You are obviously not part of the Auburn Family, thus I wouldn't expect you to understand. But bash it if it makes you feel better.

And I didn't doubt what you heard, I doubted that was how Auburn put it. Auburn didn't say, "hey, you aren't good enough to play at Bama so come play here". That's the absurd part. And I disagree about Sanders fitting that system. Maybe as a situational pass rusher, but not an up/down guy who plays LB/DE. I see in him a high motor guy who fits the DE in a 4-3 well. You look at Anders who did so good at that spot and now Upshaw, Sanders just isn't that same type of guy IMO. He does a great job on special teams right now and has a chance to move up the depth chart next year with Carter and Goggans graduating. But he may be the 4th best DE Auburn has returning next year behind Nosa, Lemonier, and Dee Ford. And that's if Joel Bonomolo doesn't get back to 100% quickly. Craig's known as a workout warrior, but he has some ground to make up in the strength dept. He gets swallowed up too easily. But, he is just a true freshman so he has time to develop.

Not bashing, just stating opinion. never liked slogans for football teams. Wouldn't like one at Bama either. Are you Family:ALL IN?

Go back & read the original post. never said AU said that. They told him he would never see the field at Bama. Saban's response to Craig was "So you are gonna let them tell you that you aren't good enough to play here." If Saban & staff thought he could fit into that system I would have to agree. Doesn't matter now. He was running like a 4.6 out of high school. I've been hearing some more bad things on Troop lately.

1. Kirby has NOT been offically offered DC @ UF. I'm sure it has been discussed privately between the two of them but no offical offer. He is expected to stay at Bama.
2. Why would Trooper or Luper's name come up? They have never been coordinators to my knowledge. Trooper is an attention hound. they would both have to work their way up before being named a coordinator at a place like UF.
3. I have read several articles lately about their recruiting methods. Shady...and what makes them "great recruiters"? I just don't see it, maybe after this year.
4. Muschamp will run a pro-style offense. Was their ever any doubt. If you listened to his press conference sounded alot like Saban.
5. Gus will have more opportunites as time moves closer to BCS NC game. Heard from an inside source that he was actually eyeing the Ball St position.....why, I do not know lol.
6. Spread...Spread...Spread. Just b/c you get in shotgun does not make you a spread team. The "Spread" is nothing more than Wing-T! Same basic principles, just spread out with different formations. Some teams actually run other offenses out of shotgun (Air Raid, Run-N-Shoot) Different philosophies.

See #5...Gus will have more opportunites as time moves closer to BCS NC game. Well, do you believe me now?
I never doubted that more Universities would be after Gus. My gut feeling before even the Vandy job was offered was that he would be at Auburn next year. Vandy didn't change my mind on that. Maryland does give him something to think about though. I mid-level ACC school still give you a chance to win that conference because of how wide open it is. If he goes there and wins the ACC, then he could leap to a HUGE job somewhere else no doubt. I was 99.9% sure he would be back after hearing of the Vandy offer. This one drops it to 70-30 towards staying. I heard that the Maryland AD wants to name a coach by Jan. 4th. That's a sticking point with me simply because I don't think Gus would distract himself or the team by putting that out there one week before the biggest game of every person affiliated with Auburn's life. But, like I've said... you never really know with coaches. Nothing would suprise me with this deal.

Hmmm...my lil' birdy seems to think otherwise. Could things change...sure, anything is possible until pen hits the paper but my source would know.

If I'm wrong, wouldn't be the first time. This year my track record with Auburn predictions has been pretty good though. But if Gus thinks this is the best move for him and his family, I'd wish him the best and move on. Auburn was made great long before Gus ever came to town, and I don't doubt that Chizik would make the best hire possible to keep Auburn moving in the right direction. Don't misunderstand that as me saying I don't want him to stay, because I absolutely do. It would sting bad, no doubt. But like I said, he has to do what he feels is best for him and his family, and if it's Maryland or anywhere else, all we could do is wish him luck and move on. He's going to be a head coach one day, and all Auburn fans have known that since his first day on the job. If we have to deal with it sooner than we'd like, then so be it. If I thought I could change his mind, dang skippy I'd try. lol... but it's his decision and I'll respect whatever he decides.

And I've also heard that the Maryland AD really wants Leach. He could be throwing Malzahn's name out as leverage. But either way, like I said, nothing I or any other Auburn person can do to change what happens.

Gus Malzahn lead Arkansas to the SEC Championship game running this offense. Tulsa lead the nation in offense for 2 straight years with Gus running things. Auburn broke records last year with CHRIS FREAKIN TODD as the QB, and has since shattered those records this year with Cam at the helm. Gus' offense has proven it works no matter who the QB is.

As for Chizik, he was smart enough to hire Gus Malzahn to run a SEC offense when most thought he couldn't get it done. Chizik is smart enough to know you MUST have great asst coaches, especially in today's big time college football where head coaches have to be more like CEOs. You are selling both very short here.

Georgia did offer the DC job to Smart last year, but Bama counter offered and Smart decided to stay. If the dawgs offered him the head coaching job i'am sure he would take it. He ia a Georgia alum.

Thanks bamacarl. I knew he had ties there, but did not know he was an alum. I doubt they'd go the coordinator route if they decide to move on from Richt, but I thought he same thing of Florida and that got shot down, so who knows. lol

Smart is not only an alum, but played in the secondary for the dawgs in the early mid ninties and was teammates with Mushchamp. I guess that would make for some interesting ****tale parties down in Jacksonville if Smart were to ever be head coach at Georgia.
