Handy Fest 2010 Headliner

Doubt it'll be anything good. We can never expect that from anyone local.

I doubt we'll even see a schedule until a week or 2 before Handy week.

I try to make it to some of Handy Week every year and that's what frustrates me the most.

Me too!! Especially since I no longer live in Florence - it requires a bit more planning on my part to be able to attend.

i'll bet money the velcro pygmies will be at outback on thursday, and lynam will be at sidepockets on wednesday. lynam is the best band there if you're into hair metal and sleaze rock

I would love to see Kent Duchaine! He used to be THE best years ago (at the Brass Lantern? on Court Street). He could sure make ol' Lead Bessie sing!

Yup Kent Duchaine was quite a steel guitar player.

I checked the website, but it's all information from last year. You know they don't ever update anything or put out brochures until 1-2 weeks before it starts. Looks like they could get the info out a little earlier.

That's true. You would think they would announce the headliner as soon as the deal with him was finalized.

It seems to suck a bit more every year. I remember back around '94, when there was an actual street party on Court St... Eric Essix playing at Callahan's.. Those were the days. A nice festival is all about planning (and financial commitment), and if the lack of updates is any indication....

I wonder why they stopped having the street parties? Does anyone know? One I've heard is that the restaurant lost money on it. Of course, Callahan's is no longer in business. Wonder why no one else tried it?

Yeah, Joey. That's how I remember the Handy Fest. It was also great to eat lunch out on Mobile St. with the big parachutes hung above.
Eric was there a time or two also. Court St. Cafe was hoppin' back then too. My, how the times are a'changing.

I haven't been in a few years but it had started to become a pretty bad festival. Same bands at the same places every single year. They need to try and do a smaller version of "Big Spring Jam" or "City Stages". Doubt that will ever happen though.

You've got the wrong forum, this is the HANDY FESTIVAL. Create a Keller forum and tell us who these people are, never heard of any of them.

Even Handy himself wouldn't show up for this. What happened to blues festival? Handy was the original blues man, not country.

You're correct Leo. That is why one of the founders of the WC Handy Fest broke his association away years ago. I was at the first one when Dizzy Gillespie was the headliner. Last year a one man play, this year a local boy dun' good. I am not slamming the artists, just think the committee, (with some of the same members for too many years) just do not understand what it takes to have a successful event. You can't be all things to all people over 4-5 counties. They should visit and interact with other festivals to find how they are successful and most of all do not put the $$ burden on the venue host. OK, I'll get off my soap box.

Who's the local boy done good? I'm confused ...
