a "smooth and efficient" process... Roll Eyes
'cept you 99ers are screwed.

Alabama Department of Industrial Relations
News Release
For Immediate Release: July 23, 2010
Claimants Should Continue to Certify for Unemployment
Compensation Benefits
MONTGOMERY – Following passage of a bill to reinstate unemployment compensation
benefit extensions, Alabama Department of Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees
issued the following statement:
“All claimants who exhausted any portion of their unemployment compensation benefits
following the June 5 expiration date should continue to file their weekly certification,
either online or by phone. DIR is beginning to process both future claims and those that
are retroactive to June 5. We assure you this will be a smooth and efficient process, but it
will take several days to implement. Please be patient as we work to get claims paid as
quickly as possible.”
Claimants can certify (which simply means notifying DIR that one is still unemployed
and available for full-time work) online at www.dir.alabama.gov or by calling 1-800-752-
7389.
DIR estimates approximately 37,000 Alabamians have exhausted federal extension tiers
since June 5.
Those who have already exhausted the maximum of 99 weeks will not be eligible for
additional compensation. The new legislation does not provide for continuation of the
FAC (Federal Additional Compensation) in the amount of $25.00 per week for new
claims filed after May 30, 2010.
